Advantages: Infused with Olbas oil - very strong and kind to skin

Disadvantages: Keep away from your eyes!

Well, we are half way through winter (will it EVER end!) and all around you can see and hear the signs of those who are suffering from the lurgy......or should I say lurgies - there are so many coughs and colds about this winter, and people seem to be either taking a long time to get through their cold, or else they are just lurching from one cold virus to the next, with barely a break inbetween.

I have been very lucky this year, and so far have managed to remain on the periphary of the dreaded lurgy. What I mean is, I have had the sniffles, I have sneezed a fair bit, and I have had one day with a sore throat, and another where I felt like my head was going to explode, but nothing that actually turned into a "proper" cold.

I have kept with me, this year, a supply of those little packets of tissues, so that when I do have a little sneezing session I am well prepared. This year, my tissues of choice have been the Olbas tissues made by Lotus. I bought these from Boots in a packet of six, and so far they have lasted me all winter.

Each tissue has been "infused" with Olbas oil, a lovely fragrant decongestant that contains the oils of Mint, Eucalyptus, Cajaput, Menthol and Juniperberry.

The tissues themselves are strong two-ply tissues, that are more like a traditional handkerchief than a pocket tissue - they are incredibly strong and do not fall apart in your hands after just one or two nose-wipes.

When you take a tissue out of the packet, you should give it a quick squeeze to release the olbas oil vapours from their tiny capsules within the tissue. Take a moment (if sneezing time allows) to breathe in the vapour before and after blowing your nose.

The smell is, to me, quite comforting and soothing, but some may find it a little strong. We have used olbas oil in one form or another for many years, helping our children with blocked noses, and just putting a drop on their pillow to help them sleep at night. If you have been brought up using Vicks and Karvol etc over the years, then you will probably find Olbas Oil tissues just the thing!

The other thing of note is that no matter how many times I have blown or wiped my nose, the skin has not got sore - I have not, at any time, given anyone the impression that I am about to audition for the role of Rudolph in the winter play.......Having a sore nose is one of the most miserable things about having a cold, in my opinion, so for these tissues to be doing their bit to help curb misery, they have to be worth a go!

The packets do warn you, but it is worth being reminded, that you should not wipe your eyes with these tissues - the oils are likely to make your eyes sting......the same goes (I assume) for other *ahem* delicate parts of your body........

They are not suitable for babies under 3 months, again due to the strength of the oils I think, but for little ones over 3 months, they should be fine.

I will definitely be replenishing my supply once these have run out, and hope that I can continue to keep a full blown cold at bay.

Summary: Trap your cold germs in these little beauties!

One teeny question - are they soft, or does it feel like you're wiping your nose with sandpaper :)

I would thoroughly recommend them!
