NHS Cervical Screening ProgrammeNewest Review: ... recommend doing some Google searches. One bad point about this is that you will come across people who have had some bad experiences with smear tests or have negative opinions towards it. I found a website where women were saying that you don't actually need a smear test and it's just another way for the government to make women feel bad about themselves or to embarrass women. This could put ... more |

I got my first smear test this year, so I thought I would write a review on the experience that women find so terrifying. First of all, I was slightly disappointed at how un-scary the whole experience turned out to be. I was waiting and waiting for some horrible procedure to be carried out and then it was over! So, if you are worried about it, please don't be - although, that's easier said than done. .::Why get a smear test?::. Smear tests are very important and women are lucky that we have a way of preventing a cancer which is very common. Something like 70% of women who have cervical cancer have never been for a smear test, so it's obvious that having ... Read the complete review

The first thing on my "to do" list for today was to go for my routine smear test. It may seem like an odd thing to do as a review on dooyoo, but anything that highlights the importance of regular screening, and shows how easy it is to keep up to date with things like this has got to be worth half an hour of my time to write it up. I had my first smear done at the age of 16. At that time, (the mid 1980s) it was widely recommended that you had your first smear within a year of becoming sexually active, and there was no problem in any of my peers getting a smear test at that young age. Provided there were no problems, you began a cycle of ... Read the complete review

This is a very high profile topic at the moment and it is something that is close to my heart therefore I would like to give my opinion of it. Smears used to be available from the age of 16 (or however soon you became sexulay active) but the age has now been increased to 25 (in most areas of England). My sister was aged 16 when she had her first smear, this was just before they were changing the age to 25. Her results came back to show abnormal cells which needed to be investigated. She then had another smear at the hospital which showed up pre cancerous cells. She underwent laser treatment for this at the hospital and three years later (after ... Read the complete review

A cervical smear is something that is usually done by your doctor and the process involves taking a swab from the walls of your cervix to check if there are any signs of pre-cancerous cells. Most woman are requested to come for there first smear test at aged twenty five years old and my doctor said they are called every three years after that. When you get to aged 50yrs it becomes every 5yrs. I think the age should definitely come down now because most girls are sexually active from a very young age these days and by the time they are twenty five the cancer may have grown and got worse if they have it. I think the age should be around 16-18yrs ... Read the complete review

A cervical smear test is a test that is carried out by your local GP or nurse and is free on the NHS. It is a test that they start doing on girls over the age of 16, or when they become sexually active. A lot of girls are very scared or worried about the smear test; they find it an embarrassing situation to be in. I know I dreaded having my first one, but the nurse soon put me at ease and it is quite clear that they see hundreds of women so you are no different to anybody else!! The procedure is performed very quickly and without any pain. Firstly the nurse inserts a speculum and opens it up so that she can see the neck of the cervix. She then ... Read the complete review
