Advantages: They are painkillers?!?

Disadvantages: Very expensive

These tablests are one of the most well known pain killer tablets on the market. Nurofen Brand have many tablets available from standard Ibuprofen, to Migrane Releif to Express tablets.

These particular tablets are the liquid capsule version. The box I have slightly difer in that they are the same but the 'express' version. There are 20 liquid capsules per box. They contain 200mg of Ibuprofen per tablet and cost £3.99 from Boots. The only difference between these tablets and standard Ibuprofen is the brand name and a few ingredients. I think that you can get the equivalent tablets but Boots branded Ibuprofen for £1.29.

The ingredients in these tablets are macrogol 600, potassium hydroxide solution, sorbitol liquid, partially dehydrated, gelatin, ponceau 4R (E124), lecithin, medium chain triglycerides, titanium dioxide (E171), propylene glycol, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, ammonium hydroxide (E527), macrogol 400, purified water as well as Ibuprofen.

They can be used to relieve the following:-
Headaches
Backache
Period pain
Dental pain
Neuralgia
Rheumatic pain
Muscular pain
Migraine
Cold and flu symptoms
Feverishness

They state clearly DO NOT TAKE if you have the following:-
have or have ever had a stomach ulcer, or perforation or bleeding of the stomach.
Are allergic to any of the ingredients or to aspirin or to any other non sterodial anti inflammatory drugs.
Are taking other pain killers, or aspirin with a daily dose above 75mg.
Are in the lst 3 months of pregnancy.
Are under 12 years old.

The directions for taking are to take one tablet with water every 4 hours and if symptoms persist to see a doctor.

As with any medicines I would advise cheking and reading all detailed instructions and warnings enclosed with the medicine.

Opinion
At first I was taken in by the branded name and beleived that no tablet could beat Nurfoen. However after being told by a doctor that Ibuprofen does exactly the same I have tried own branded Ibuprofen and they have had the same effect with curing headaches and the like. I am not a great tablet taker and only take one if really needed. I have also discovered that saving myself a few pounds every time I buy a box is a lot easier on the purse.

My most important point and the reason I wrote this review is this. The directions state clearly that these tablets should be taken with water. My husband is one of those people that take tablets with no water (something I could never do). One night he woke up in the early hours of the morning with what he thought was a Migrane on the way. I passed him one of these tablets which he promptly threw down his neck with no water. To my horror he started choking. Not one of those coughs where it has gone down the wrong way but the silent look with his mouth open and his face changing colour rapidly. It took some swift action and my fingers halfway down his throat before the tablet dislodged. He didn't think it was a big deal, I however spent the next 10 minutes swapping between floods of tears through fright and shouting at him for being so stupid. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE even if you take the normal sugar coated tablets without water, do NOT assume these liquid tabs are the same. Because of the material they can become lodged in your throat very easily.

As a pharmacist I would warn anybody not to take tablets but particularly anti-inflmatories without water as beside choking (glad oh was ok) it can also get stuck and cause ulcers in the lining of the tube to the stomach so please take care
