I'm on something of a mission at the moment, and that mission is to do what I can about RIP-OFF BRITAIN. And my targets of choice are drug companies, and in particular the astronomical charges they make for their brand name over-the-counter medicines when there are non-branded varieties available which are exactly the same but cost much, much less. Sadly, however, lots of people don't know about these generic remedies you can get from the pharmacist because very often they are not on display or are far less prominent than the big brand products. So on to Nurofen? Nurofen is one of the biggest selling pain relievers around. It is made by ... Read the complete review

For the last week I have been suffering from a sore throat. No big deal, you might think. But that was until last night.... Without hardly any warning, I went from having a sore throat to what felt like a severe throat infection. I was in agony and could barely swallow. Of course, I had taken pain killers (paracetamol mostly) but nothing seemed to dull the pain. The doctor had already put me on a course of penicillin (the same day, in fact), but it takes a while for it to get to work anyway. Out of desperation, I rang NHS Direct and spoke to a nurse who suggested I use Ibuprofen. Typically, we had none in the house, but then I remembered that Sainsbury's was open until ... I have a problem. I do find it difficult to swallow tablets. However big or small it has always been a problem for me. I’m sure it’s all in the mind but it is a problem I have always had. Secondly, a majority of my headaches are at work so I need something convenient to take. Thirdly, and most important, it has to work! Step forward ‘Nurofen Recovery’. I had never seen this product before on the shelves (but then again it could be ten years old) so decided to experiment on something new. It sure beats chewing tablets (yeah, I know). Nurofen Recovery comes in a ... Read the complete review

~ ~ I'm a great believer in the beneficial effects of Aspirin. This marvellous wee 'wonder drug' has been a fixture in my medicine cabinet for as far back as I can remember. I take a tablet every morning to help thin my blood, and thus aid my circulation, as being a smoker I worry about the dangers of blood clotting and possible stroke. I find that it also helps the arthritis that I have in my hands, most probably as a result of too many cold mornings spent on golf courses over the years. ~ ~ But sometimes Aspirin just can't cut it, especially when it comes to severe pain, and then something a bit stronger is called for. Nurofen Plus is a ... Read the complete review

There are so many over the counter painkillers available today, but in my opinion, nothing gets better than Nurofen. The main active ingredient is ibuprofen which doubles up as a very effective anti-inflammatory and reduces fever and high temperatures. I get a lot of muscle and nerve pain, and although most painkillers are effective against the muscle aches, nothing has been able to even touch the nerve pain, apart from Nurofens! They are also particularly effective at lessening period pains and the aches you get from flu and colds etc, and an absolute must for anybody suffering from toothache! Arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis sufferers will also find these ... Read the complete review
