Advantages: You get a nice box
Disadvantages: About 2 pounds too expensive
Nurofen are a painkiller brand, who sell a variety of painkillers, such as 'fast relief' etc. In my review, I'm just going to talk about the standard Nurofen.
Avaliability - from most supermarkets, chemists, newsagents, and drugstores. There may be limits on how many packs you can buy at one time.
Price - around 2.50 a box, depending where you get it from.
Packaging - Nurofen come in a silver box, with the nurofen logo on the side and front. The number of tablets per box is on the front & directions for use is on the back. There is a detailed leaflet inside, telling you the ingredients, who can't take it, etc. I'd advise people to always read this before use & keep it handy as a reference incase you have a reaction.
Directions for use: Adults, elderly & children over 12 years: 2 tablets to start, then 1 or 2 every 4 hours.
Not for children under 12.
Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours.
Nurofen can be taken in conjunction with paracetamol or asprin based products, but not with other ibrufopen products.
Does it work - Yes, Nurofen works on mild - moderate pain, including muscle pain, headaches, toothaches etc. However, it usually only takes the edge of my period pain & I have to take it alongside paracetamol for best effect. If I take too much Nurofen, I get stomach pains, as Ibruprofen can irritate the stomach lining.
HOWEVER - Nurofen is one massive ripoff. One pack of nurofen (12 tablets) costs around 2.50. There is apsolutely NO difference between Nurofen and own-brand ibrufopen which usually costs around 30p for 24 tablets.
Although Nurofen has a massive long list of ingredients (which are mainly to do with the sugar casing) it's active ingredient is 200mgs of Ibrofopen. So effectively, they are charging a few extra pounds for a fancy box. I didn't know this until we had a lecture on drugs & pharmacology and it's something Nurofen keep very quiet.
Incidentally, instead of taking Lemsip, you may aswell take an own-brand paracetamol+asprin tablet, and a cup of coffee for caffiene.
Instead of taking Cuprofen, take 400 mgs of Ibrufopren ( 2 regular tablets)
I think it's disgraceful that these companies market their painkillers as something special, when infact they are just cheap generic pills in a shiny box.
Summary: Don't buy it!

- 28/11/07 Yep, I always buy genereic 'over the counter' pain killers. |

- 28/11/07 I agree - like everything in this consumer-driven society, you're just paying for the name rather than the product. The "cheap and cheerful" non-branded stuff is just as good, if not better. |

- 28/11/07 The problem is government guidelines limiting the number of tablets that can be sold. THey are the most effective painkilling tablets for me, by far, and thankfully I don't need them very often |
