I went to Optical express in Belfast last month to get this procedure done. most people do not know that their are two different types of surgery available. the first (and most expensive) option is the LASEK surgery and then the cheaper version I got, which is the LASIK surgery. From what I was informed all people are NOT suitable for the cheaper version so don't get your hopes built up......you may have to pay big money in order to have your vision corrected.

From the moment I first went into optical express I have to say that everyone was really friendly and they answered every question I asked. they took me step by step through the procedure so I knew exactly what would be happening at each stage.

I was shocked at how quick (in my opinion) this miracle procedure was carried out. I was put down on the operating table with nothing but a few eye drops in my eyes. These drops numb the eyes preventing the infliction of pain. after about 2 minutes cleaning on the first eye the show had begun. A clamp device put over my eye followed by the creation of the flap. the laser beamed into the eye and the flap is closed. In total 8 min on each eye.

when the Procedure was finished and I walked out onto Donegal street in Belfast City centre I felt like I had just left a vault in which I had lived my entire life. My eyes were very sensitive to light. I strongly recommend you bring a pair of sun glasses and don't end up like me. I was sitting in the europa bus centre waiting for the bus to Newry crying my eyes out....I got some funny looks. You will experience tears and mild pain for about 3 days prior to the operation but nothing worse than the pain a raw onion would do to you when chopped.

so it has been 1 month, how is my vision? The vision was perfect in roughly 4 days after the operation. The first 3 days things are difficult to focus in on. I was told to apply numerous drops 20 times a day so this didn't help.

cost of the surgery: £395 per eye
