Amazing Sight! (Optical Express Lasik Laser Eye Surgery)

I had my surgery back in Jan 09 and just wanted to share my experience of it with others. I had my treatment at Optical Express in Reading and the service and after care i received was fantastic

I played a lot of sport and swam alot and was forever wearing contact lenses which were making my eyes dry and tired. I had heard about laser eye surgery and wanted to find out more as i was getting sick and tired of always having to pack my glasses or contacts

At first i was nervous as to having the surgery and went to the FREE consultation very nervous and with lots of questions. The consultation consists of answering a few questions and having a semi eye test in order for the optition to make sure you are suitable - i must add at this point that it is not painful at all. There is no pressure to sign up for the treatment , it just gives you an insight into the procedure and a chance to meet staff etc

Following on from my consultation i decided to go ahead with the treatment. There are a number of different treatments available (see the website for details of all of them) but the one i went for was the LASIK treatment - which involves a small cut being made in your eye a laser then being shone into your eyes to correct the vision- i know it may sounds painful but honestly its not.

The day i arrived for my surgery i was taken for some more eye test type checks before in order to make sure my eyes were healthy. From there i went down to see the doctor who explained what was going to happen and showed me exactly what he was going to do, took me around the machines and explained how they worked. He fully answered all my questions and talked me through every step of the procedure - the one bit of advice that i would give is to ask ask and ask questions, the more you ask the more confident you get if you are nervous.

The procedure only takes 20mins or so and really is pain free. There is slight discomfort at times but at no time was i in pain and i have a very low pain threshold! The machines make a bit of noise which can be off putting but thats normal. And when the laser is put on your eye ther is a funny smell for about 5 seconds as its the gases off the machines working - perfectly normal!

Once it was done i went back to the room with the doctor who checked over my eyes. Almost instantly my sight was much better. I was told that i would have a slight foggy feeling when i opened my eyes and i did -but i could still see much better than i could before. The foggy vision lasted for a couple of hours but soon went.

Like i have said before there procedure was pain less but one thing i will mention is that after the surgery my eyes became very light sensitive ( again this is normal). For a bout a hour or so after all i wanted to do was close my eyes as they felt gritty and sensitive to light - agaoin not painful just slight discomfort - this soon fades and after being home for a couple of hours the feelings had gone.

You will need someone to come with you to take you home after the surgery as your eyes will feel tired and heavy - dont attempt to drive as this is very unsafe. You get drops and goggles to wear following the treatment and the after care you get is amazing. You go back for a 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 2 month and 6 month check up.

All thats left to say is that you shoud def go for the consultation and then decide from there. Although it can be expensive, its worth the money and if you average it out over the rest of your life it is def a good investment
