Advantages: Better than 20/20 vision
Disadvantages: Pain on the first day.
I had my treatment on 20 October 2007, I'm never going to forget that day! I had my consultation at around lunchtime, which involved some eye tests and a thorough examination by the surgeon. I gave my eye history, and explained that I was fed up of having to wear contact lenses & glasses.
After I was told that I was a suitable candidate, he went through the various procedures. I had already decided beforehand that I would have Epi-Lasek. Although it would hurt, there was less chance of complications. He then convinced be to have wavefront treatment as there is a better chance of 20/20 vision, and also to avoid any night vision problems (because of my large pupils). I mean there's no point in trying save money on your eye sight.
I came back around 14:30 for the treatment, as i walked in everyone was in surgeon gear and I thought to my self this is serious..
Throughout the procedure I felt no pain because of the drops they put in your eye. I had already seen the operation on youtube so I knew exactly what he was doing. The thing you really remember is the pungent smell of the tissue being vapourised.
As I left the surgery my eyes were a little sensitive to light, but I could instantly see better. When I got home the pain began, which was at first was tolerable but the only thing I had a problem with was the heavy watering of the eyes. I was given anaesthetic drops but i never used them, as I wanted them to heal naturally.
By the next day the pain had gone, and my eyesight was good in the right but blurry in the left. I couldn't watch TV or read because of the bandage lenses in my eye, which were uncomfortable. My eyesight gradually got better.
I had these lenses removed at the clinic 3 days after surgery, and I could now read the 20/20 line on the eye chart. What a result!
I had by second checkup a week after surgery and I know have better than 20/20 vision.
Having laser eye surgery was the best decision I've ever made, no more glasses or contact lenses for the rest of my life (for distance vision).
Whenever I see someone wearing glasses or contacts, I think to myself, why are they messing around with these frames and pieces of plastic in their eyes. All they need to have is a simple 15 minute procedure.
I may have paid £1500 (18 months interest free), but over my lifetime I will save money because contact and glasees are not cheap.
One final thing I've actually got better vision than I had with my contacts & glasses, so I don't agree with it being classed as cosmetic surgery. It's 2007 and god has given us the knowledge to give us back our youthful vision, please don't pass up on that chance.
Summary: Stop thinking about it and get it done.

- 28/11/07 Excellent review, I have been thinking about this for ages. I don't wear glasses etc., but things are hard to read sometimes especiaally small writing. You may have tipped me over to going. You didn't say your age does age matter. I'm 53 so would hope to suitable. Thanks for that. David |
