Advantages: Allows people to play sports afterwards, good for those with scars

Disadvantages: Longer recovery period, have to wear bandage contact lenses, sensitive to light straight after op

Hi,

I thought i would also drop a few lines regardig my laser surgery optimax experiece as i also did loads of research online before taking the final step and it was testimonials that spurred me on, so here's mine.

I was supposed to have same day (consult and treat) intralase but had to have epi-lasek because of a scar in one of my eyes. The procedure is very quick approx 20 mins - about 5 mins per eye. You are sort of aware of the scratching of the cornea but you will be very well anaesthetised, you will only feel the wet on the side of your face, you can see the laser right infront of you as it works but cant feel a single thing, just be prepared for the smell of your eyes being lasered, it's in the burnt hair category of smell. There is no pain, just discomfort afterwards because of light sensitivity, i.e. you are aware that something has happened to your eyes and its not the same as yesterday, dont panic, just take a nice week off and take your aftercare drops regularly.

For intralase i hear its immediate results but for epi-lasek you have to wait about 4-5 days and you have to wear bandage contact lens for 3 days but if you are used to contacts then no problem, my 20/20 came after 5 days, as in i started driving at night, watching tv etc..working on laptop took longer, i had to take frequent breaks but about 10 days after op was when my laptop tolerance was back to normal i.e. the normal 6-24 hr stretches.

I was able to read email the day after epi-lasek, but that was it, whilst wearing the sunglasses! LOL! i include this part simply because i know a lot of us are now online based, and so one of the pressing questions for me was how much revenue i would lose or online action i would miss whilst recovering, (this only makes sense if you are online it based) how long would i be able to code for without calling quits etc, the answer is 10-14 days! otherwise the glare is uncomfortable, but everyone is different.

This is the best decision i have made, it feels like life as it should be experienced, but it's still a risk, but no complaints here. Having been through it, if there was such a need as to go back through it again, i would without hesitation.

I would advise you to do your research on the consultants, these are your eyes and it is worth knowing the history of the consultant, i had one of the best ones who was in liverpool on wknds at the time, well he was certaintly the best on my day because my scar was complex, but here i am 20/20 running jumping swimming playing sauna-ring, driving laughing smiling, list goes on...:)

Good luck, but for this hill, each has to overcome their own fears....

Summary: best decision
