Paloma Exclusive Tissues 3 Ply
Advantages: Very cheap at 6 pence a packet, absorbant, good quality
Disadvantages: Not the softest tissue
With allergies to dust, my boyfriend and I get through a lot of tissues and can spend an absolute fortune on them. Unfortunately the cheaper the tissues, the worse the quality which means we need to buy them more regularly. We prefer to buy small packets of tissues which fit in my bag or that we can keep by the side of the bed. About 6 months ago we found a bumper pack of Paloma tissues in Poundland and have been buying them ever since.
The tissues are in sets of 10 tissues packaged individually within a larger pack of 15. The outer packaging is a plastic wrapping which bright and bold in orange with the word Paloma across the front. It managed to catch our eye in Poundland which I think is saying something about how it stands out from the others! Within the outer packaging there are 15 packets of tissues, each individually wrapped in the same type of orange plastic. The packets each measure 5½ cm in width by 10½ cm in length. The packets open relatively easily and the sticky tabs work well for the first few re-seals, however tend to lose their stickiness after a while.
The tissues themselves are folded up as you would expect in a small packet. They are 3 ply so quite thick and of good quality tissue that doesn't aggravate the nose (unless it's already sore and then it does!)! The tissues don't compete with Kleenex or other varieties when it comes to quality and softness but they are perfectly adequate and you can blow your nose into them several times before they need to be thrown away. Some other cheap options need to be thrown after one as you can blow straight through them or they tear easily, however Paloma tissues are strong and sturdy and fully absorbent. They are not the largest tissues I've seen but a good size and perfectly suitable for nose blowing. They are not 'man-size' tissues which are available from Kleenex but I've never met a man who needs a tissue that large! Unlike some other packs of tissues these do not contain any moisturising ingredients to help sooth soreness or to ease a blocked nose.
What can you use them for?
Obviously, a packet of tissues is a necessity if you have a cold. During the winter months, even if I don't have a cold, I always carry a packet of these tissues with me in my bag for any sniffles and sneezes as they are the perfect size for carrying around. They are also very absorbent so are great for wiping up any water spillages or mess and wiping dirty mouths!
Price and availability
I have seen Paloma tissues in a range of shops from Wilkinson and Home Bargains to pound shops and they are always good value. However Poundland is the cheapest I've seen them and at £1 for a pack of 15 it works out that one packet only costs 6 pence. This is considerably cheaper than Wilkinson's own tissues which retail at 16 pence a packet and Handy Andies or Kleenex which usually cost around 50 pence a packet and can be bought separately in supermarkets, pharmacies, stationers and newsagents.
Paloma is a Slovenian company and these tissues are not sold in as many shops as Kleenex and other pocket tissues. It's worth popping into discount stores and stocking up as everyone needs tissues and I can't imagine finding a better deal!
Overall these are a very handy buy providing 15 packs of tissues for a very low price. They are a great tissue of a good size and quality and I would recommend them to anyone. They are an ideal size for keeping in your bag as you never know when you're going to need them! For the price and excellent value I would give these full marks but am taking away one star because although I'm very happy with them, they are not the softest tissue in the world and not ideal for sore noses.
Summary: Well worth the price
