I often do this for my husband who has got Psorasis as it is great for any one who had dry skin and is a cheap alternative than most creams you can buy, plus you have the added bonus that you will smell nice. It is also ideal for men after they have shaved and the skin is a bit dry, add a bit of the cream and it will soften it up quite quickly. In a...more

Premium Review Patchouly: Love and Peace (537 words)

First of Dooyoo, Patchouli, is the correct spelling :0) When I think of Patchouli, I instantly think of hippies and how they would drown themselve in the oils as a symbol of peace and love. Now we all know about the oils that you can use in aromatherapy and you certainly can put a couple of drops of it in your candle burner and it will enrich you room with a lovely smell if a sweet and a musky woody smell. But what do we actually know about patchouli been used as a medicine? Well the Patchouli leaf is where we get the oils from and I can remember my dad as a teenager experimenting with this going mad when I would put one or two ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not just for hippies (557 words)

Rating:

Patchouli is often thought of as the quintessential oil of the 60s, hippies, Afghan coats and smoky bedsits, but it actually has a whole host of important uses in aromatherapy. It's also one of the cheapest and least irritating/toxic oils, making it great for beginners to experiment with. Patchouli is a native of Malasia but is now grown in many countries around the world; and its scent can vary quite a lot depending on the manufacturer and where it comes from. Indian patchouli, for example, I think has the 'deepest' and strongest smell, while that from China is relatively light. That means it may be worth 'sniffing around' several ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Patchouly: Where are YOU Dark Handsome Stranger? (490 words)
by - written on 14/11/01 (Very useful, 38 readings)
Rating:

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is an earthy, warm yet exotic, slightly musky aroma. It congers up images of the desert. Of romantic nights at an isolated oasis with a dark handsome Arab. (Please do not tell Shane). Oh well, at least I can use the Patchouli Essential oil instead and just dream! Patchouli is a native plant of India. The essential oil is amber in colour, distilled from the dried leaves. This oil is classified as a Woody/Balsamic essential oil. **Healing Properties** The Indian has used this oil for many thousands of years. It is primarily an antiseptic, antibiotic and antibacterial but is used in treating infections. It is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Snake Bite Remedy??? (179 words)

Patchoulli has for many centuries played a key role in many eastern health systems. It was used extensively to prevent the spread of epidemics. It was considered to be an effective insect repellant and a remedy for snakebite! One of the main uses I put Patchoulli to is in facial creams and body lotions. I always add a drop to my moisturiser and it is one of the oils I instinctively reach for when I am giving myself a general aromatherapy rub. It smells delicious and the perfume really lingers ... you can smell it throughout the day after applying it to the face in the morning. Patchoulli can be used on an emotional level, for those who feel fatigued, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Patchouly: A relaxing oil.... (128 words)
by - written on 10/09/00 (Useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

A more commonly used oil, this one has a woody, earthy type smell that is slightly pungent! It is possible to use this as a sedation formula if you use it more heavily and can put up with the stench! The two unique properties about this oil is that if you put a couple of drops in the bath it will stimulate you and give you a kind of pick-me-up feeling. On the other hand, if you use it in larger amounts it has the capabilities of sedating you! I did try and see if I would be sedated – and it did make me feel very relaxed, I wouldn’t drive, but I didn’t collapse and fall asleep! ...  Read the complete review
