“ Pyralvex is a solution formulated to treat the pain of mouth ulcers. Whilst the taste isn't very pleasant and it can cause a brief burning sensation in the mouth, it is very effective in soothing pain. „
Having used many gels to cure my mouth ulcer, I found out that most of them do not do what they say, for example Bonjela. Bonjela was supposed to "ease the pain" but in fact it did nothing. I have been hunting for mouth ulcer treatment forever; that is until I found Pyralvex solution. I have used it long enough to say that I was very satisfied with the results, so I thought that I might share my experience with you.
== Pyralvex solution ==
== What is Pyralvex? ==
Unlike some ulcer treatment medications; Pyralvex is not a gel or a paste. Pyralvex is a brown solution, which can slightly disappoint you at the first instance mainly because you may wonder how a liquid can stick on an ulcer. I'm sure most of you never heard of the brand before however, it's not new to the market; it was used many years ago by lots of people but it became less and less famous by the day and nearly everyone became more attached to Bonjela instead.
Pyralvex is normally used to ease the pain and reduce the redness and irritation caused by mouth ulcers. It is also very useful to use on the inflamed gum which is caused by the denture.
Pyralvex contains a few ingredients; however there are two "main ingredients" if you would like to call them that. They are the rhubarb extract and salicylic acid. The Rhubarb extract is a genuine (natural) extract while the salicylic acid is an acid similar to aspirin and also s natural extract. Salicylic acid is known to ease the pain and it is widely used to treat acne and to reduce some kinds of fever while rhubarb is known to reduce any types of irritation. So in short these two ingredients work to stop the irritation and reduce the inflammation of the ulcer.
== Who can use it? ==
It is strongly advised that any product which contains salicylic acid such as Pyralvex should no longer be used by children under the age of 16 years so it is a "grown up" medication. Another warning which should be taken into consideration is to make sure that you are not allergic to it. If you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients such as salicylates or Aspirin, you are advised not to use it.
== Using the solution ==
Pyralvex solution should only be applied on the infected part of the mouth. Make sure not to surpass the suggested dose of three to four times a day.
Apply the solution is straight forward, as you use the brush provided the pack with to treat the infected area. It's a bit of art work actually, you have to "paint" the mouth ulcer gently ONCE with the brush. After applying the solution, you should wait for a good 15 minutes or more depending on the size of the ulcer and during this time you should completely try to avoid eating, drinking or rinsing your mouth so the solution can work effectively.
The same thing should be done when applying for denture irritation but this time you should apply the solution to the irritated gum and leave for at least 30 minutes before putting the denture back and again avoid eating and drinking For hygienic reasons only one person can use the bottle, you can't share it with others.
== The actual product ==
Pyralvex came in a bright yellow box with the name of the product on the front and back along with the ingredients and directions on the sides. Inside the box you will find instructions leaflet with everything you want to know about Pyralvex and its main ingredients.
Pyralvex is a very dark solution so it most probably will damage and stain furniture, clothes or even your teeth and your tongue so be extra careful not to drop it anywhere.
The solution is stored in a small tinted glass bottle (10ml); the cap is attached to a small wand which incidentally is attached to soft brush, something very reminiscent to the nail varnish wand.
== My experience ==
When I first I opened the bottle, the first thing I noticed was the strong smell. It didn't put me off, however it wasn't very pleasant either as it smelled like acidic fruit mixed with Iodine. I gently dabbed the brush into the solution and applied it onto the inflamed area.
When I first applied it, a burning sensation occurred and I felt like my tongue and gum were burning. I'm not exaggerating when I said that my tongue and my gum were on fire, it felt like an acidic burn. A few minutes later the burning sensation started to wear but I couldn't feel my tongue for a good few minutes.
All of a sudden my saliva started to increase rapidly, I couldn't wait any longer so I swallowed it and guess what happened next? The fire in both my gums and my tongue was gone. The whole process took me about 10-15 minutes to get back to "normal" but my tongue still didn't feel the same prior to the process.
I felt much better and my mouth ulcer instantly felt less painful. I spent the first day applying the solution as prescribed, 3-4 times and the results were extremely good, it was less painful and less tender.
The solution tasted horrible, it was bitter and sour and it left a nasty taste and a horrible aftertaste in my mouth but it was well worth it, at least it treated the ulcer quickly.
A couple of days later and the mouth ulcer completely vanished. I was happy with the results. It truly worked as my mouth ulcer usually lasts for several days before it starts to disappear.
== And finally : ==
* In the case of pregnancy and breastfeeding: Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant as it's not mentioned on the box or in the leaflet. So my advice to you is go consult a doctor just to be on the safe side
* The side effects are not many, nearly every form of medicine has a potential side effect and it may fluctuate from one individual to another. Some of these common side effects may be the burning sensation at the application place. Some people may suffer from a bitter and metallic aftertaste just like I did.
* It's more probable that the brown liquid might tarnish your mouth, tongue or teeth but don't worry about this as it is only momentary and it can be simply removed by brushing your teeth and mouth washing.
* Do not over do it! Overdose in Salicylate toxicity can result if you exceed the recommended applications.
* Like all medications, do not use the solution after the expiry date which is shown on the label and carton.
* Store it in a cool dry place and keep it out of the reach of children.
* Always consult your doctor or pharmacist especially if you are taking Aspirin or any other medication that contains Aspirin
