Advantages: effective relief

Disadvantages: slight chalky taste

“I’ve got a bad stomach” (accompanied by a great deal of moaning and clutching of the offending body part)
“It’s wind”
“It’s an ulcer- I’ve got an ulcer. It’s stress!”

So began our evening conversation for a full three days and in those dark days, a simple case of flatulence became a rare and incurable stomach ulcer.
At this stage I must point out that I am not unsympathetic (not a lot) but I do know that hubby can turn a sniffle into man flu at the drop of a hat and I was now expected to be sympathetic and give him some attention.

So, a quick trip to the chemist brought these to our house and cured him. It’s a MIRACLE!

**WHEN TO USE**

These should be used if you have any symptoms of heartburn, which apparently affects up to 30% of the population.
It is caused when acid from the stomach rises into the oesophagus and the throat and is more common during pregnancy and in times of stress
The symptoms include a burning pain in the chest or stomach, a burning sensation in the throat, a hot, salty or acidic taste at the back of the throat, difficulty swallowing, and a feeling of having food stuck in the throat.
These all sound very unpleasant, so a cure was needed.

**THE PROMISE**

These looked good…fast acting indigestion relief. This product promised to neutralize stomach acid and provide refreshing relief from indigestion (will it work with excess food/drink?). It also provides relief from heartburn, acid indigestion, and flatulence, so all in all, a great all round remedy for stomach upsets.

**THE PACKAGING**

I bought the small pack of 8 tablets which are really handy to carry around for any moments of discomfort. The foil covered tablets can be slid easily out of the orange packet and then one at a time popped out for consumption.
Obviously, there is the Rapeze logo on the front and all the ingredients and directions for useage on the back.

**THE TABLETS**

There are two small square tablets of each flavour-orangey, yellow, purple and pink equating to orange, lemon, blackcurrant and raspberry. Ok, not particularly original but at least you know which one you are taking.

**DOSAGE**

One or two tablets should be sucked or chewed as required, up to a maximum of 16 a day (how many?).
They are not recommended for children under the age of 12 years

**INGREDIENTS**

The tablets contain Calcium Carbonate Ph. Eur. 500mg and are Sodium free.

**WARNINGS**

• If you are sensitive to any of the ingredients, or are taking other prescribed medicines, consult your doctor before taking the tablets
• If you experience unusual side effects (which is rare), consult your doctor
• If pregnant these tablets can be taken when needed
• Don’t store above 25 degrees
• Keep out of the reach of children
• If symptoms persist, consult your doctor

**WEBSITE**

www.rennie.co.uk

Lots of useful information on the products. If you suffer from heartburn of indigestion, it gives lots of advise, and if you’re not sure, there is information on diagnosing your stomach complaint.

**PRICE AND AVAILABILITY**

These cost me 79p, so about 10p a tablet…not excessively expensive.
They are available in other sizes-16 and 32 and the price per tablet seems to decrease as the packet gets bigger

**OTHER PRODUCTS**

The carbonate/magnesium carbonate formulation is available in a range of remedies to suit all tastes, including Rennie Spearmint, Rennie Peppermint, Soft chews in mint, Rennie sugar free.

**VERDICT**

Well, the indigestion seems to have abated and we now keep these tablets ready for future emergencies.
The tablets are slightly chalky when they are chewed but I suppose this is to be expected when there is calcium and magnesium carbonate in the ingredients. The slight chalky feel and taste is somewhat eliminated by the fruit flavour; you are eating chalky fruit flavour rather than chalk!
It is a benefit that they are chewed rather than swallowed because if you are anything like me, the swallowing of one tablet takes a half pint of water and the last thing I could cope with if I had a bad stomach, is a big drink of water; the slow chewing is infinitely preferable.
One disadvantage is that they look very much like sweets- colourful and about the right size. Whilst they are produced in a small packet to be kept close at hand, if they are in your bag or pocket, keep coats and bags away from children. Side affects may be minimal but is that minimal for an adult?

In conclusion, these are an excellent product for combating indigestion and heartburn and for restoring your loved ones to full health. I think I came out in sympathy a few weeks later and suffered for about four hours, but I had these close at hand and complaints were kept to a minimum.

Fruity, chalky but very effective…if you suffer from stomach upsets, keep them close at hand; if you don’t, a small packet is very light and small and for the price and size are useful to carry about “just in case”.
