Advantages: Cheap, decent size
Disadvantages: Roughish paper
I do like having a box of tissues on my bedside cabinet! I find them handy from blowing my nose on them to blotting my lipstick in a hurry and on the way out of the door and I get through loads of them which is why I opted to purchase these in Sainsury's the other day when I was mooching about!
I usually spend a couple of quid a time on leading brand tissues as I do like quality in this area buy boy oh boy am I getting through money on something so trivial! So I thought instead of parting with my usual couple quid that I'd try these for 25p a box! I wasn't expecting greatness from them I was simply curious by them and was wanting to compare them to my usual choices!
The Packaging....
Oblong white cardboard box with bands of orange colour on it. On the front in white and black writing I'm told they are indeed Sainsbury's Basics and that 'Buying this product helps you care for the worlds forests' and on the bottom left hand corner FSC is written on there. There is a perforated oval section to the front you simply tear off the first time you go to use them and on that in bright orange writing I'm told they are ' Facial Tissues, Everyday Design, Everyday Use'. On the bottom of the box all in black I am told once again they are Sainsbury's, White Facial Tissues and size of the tissues is stated: Average 150 x 2 ply tissues, Sheet Size 204 x 190mm, Total Area 5.81sq.metres, contact details for Sainsbury's are given, I'm told a bit about The Forest Stewardship Council and that Sainsbury's supports this cause and given recycle details and finally there is a bar-code on there and a reminder to remove tissues from clothes before washing them (had to tell you that cos it made me chuckle lol). Overall the box really is very basic and screams 'I am a cheap skate' but fine they are for private use I just wouldn't stick them on my coffee table to show the world or owt lol.
The Tissues....
White and quite thin though to be fair not as thin as I expected and you can't quite see through them. None fragranced, they pull out individually very well indeed from the box and as promised are 2 ply but hold together exceptionally well. Size wise they are great, not as big as most leading brands (in my experience) but certainly not tiny by any means. However they do fall flat in one area and that area happens to be quality....
They are paper and not great quality paper at that. They are not rough but again not the softest I've ever felt and when using them there is a crunchy sound to them rather than a nice soft and delicate feeling given. Durable for blowing a nose on, they absorb liquid ok but on the face and being wiped around the nose area doesn't feel wonderful and soothing they simply do a job.
For wiping hands and blotting lipstick and mopping up a drop of tea you knock on your bedside cabinet (or mine) great but if I had a cold or flu then no, I wouldn't be tight and buy these. Ok for every-day use.... sure but not when your ill because as I said they'll do the job you want them to do well enough but I personally wouldn't describe them as 'kind' to the skin.
Overall....
I use them all the time and will definitely repurchase them. I find them valuable for using when applying make up and say I add to much foundation or blusher these are great for a quick, cheap wipe. Rubbish to remove nail varnish with though as they crumble! Soggy nose, sure wipe away... flu don't bother you'll get sore! A real value buy that I use with common sense!
Summary: 25p and worth a go!

- 18/03/09 I do find it funny that the box insists on telling you what the total area of all the tissues is - I mean, what possible use is that information? In case you want to lay a 5.81 sq metre tissue carpet? |

- 17/03/09 Thanks Lel and I agree Chemical. For day to day quick uses these are ok but not ok for an eternally dribbly nose if you dont want to lose half of it lol x |
