Advantages: They make you sleep

Disadvantages: The smell & taste made me gag

I was having trouble sleeping a few months ago due to stress so I went to Sainsbury's to see if I could get something that would help me sleep at night. I didn't want to get any nasty drugs from the doctor as they can be addictive, I wanted something natural. I came across Sainsbury's Sleep Aid Herbal Remedy in the medicine section and decided that I would give them a go, mainly because they were the cheapest ones there at just £2.99 for 60 tablets. Also because I have normally found Sainsbury's products to be of quite good quality.

They come in a blue box with a picture of a moon made from herb leaves on it as well as all the necessary information which is:

Active Ingredients, Typical Weight per film coated tablet, Extract of Hops equivalent to 200mg, Extract of Valerian equivalent to 160mg, Extract of Passion Flower equivalent to 130mg.

Warning: You shouldn't take these if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you are depressed as they may cause side effects. They may make you drowsy. Not to be taken by under 12's.

I opened the box and read the instructions, they said that you should take two tablets an hour before bed. When I broke open one of the blisters to take out a pill I was hit by an awful smell, to be honest it smelt as bad as when my cat goes to the toilet, vile I know but that's how bad it smells. Despite the smell I decided persevere and swallow the, hoping that I'd get used to the smell. I tried to swallow them as fast as was humanly possible but still found that I had to taste them. The taste made me feel violently sick but I managed to swallow them and then went and cleaned my teeth for 10 minutes to get rid of the taste and the smell they left.

Despite their smell and taste I woke up after having a good nights sleep for the first time in weeks. I did however have awful breath that smelt of the tablets, gross so I went and cleaned my teeth again.

Overall I think that they are a good sleeping aid and I like the fact that they are completely natural. However the smell and the taste was so bad that I gave up on them after just 4 days. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody who has a strong sense of smell or taste as like they did with me they will make you gag. Otherwise they do work and help you to sleep.

Summary: Overall only 3 stars, I won't be buying them again
