I find it helps me get a good night's sleep. However, my favourite way to use it is on logs, on an open fire (when there's one around!) This is an expensive oil so is perhaps best kept to pamper yourself from time to time. It really is exotic ...more

Premium Review Sandalwood: Exotic and luxurious! (430 words)
by - written on 25/09/01 (Very useful, 61 readings)
Rating:

Sandalwood Mysore essential oil has a musky, rich aroma which is not initially very strong. However, the perfume is a base note one and this means that it lingers for a long time. This fragrance is used a lot in religious ceremonies and burnt to aid meditation. It is said to create an exotic, sensual atmosphere although, I must admit rhat I find it makes me feel drowsy. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the wood of the sandalwood tree (Santalum album, family: santalaceae). The East Indies are one of the world's largest commercial producers. This oil is in the top price range. Uses: +++++ Skincare oil, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Relaxing, but not for insects (143 words)
by - written on 15/10/00 (Useful, 22 readings)
Rating:

Sandalwood is a thick and viscous oil, but once out of the bottle it has some valuable uses. It has a subtle long lasting satisfying woody aroma. Whilst it seems appealing to humans, mixed with Eucalyptus and a citrus oil such as Mandarin it makes for an effective insect repellent. I’ve tried it when camping in Scotland and I swear the midges had suitcases when they flew off! For a relaxing bath try a couple of drops with Clary Sage or Ylang-Ylang to ease away tension. Follow up with a body massage of the same blend to test its aphrodisiac reputation. For dry coughs especially, try blending Sandalwood with Ravensara ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sandalwood: Sensual, Calming and Therapeutic (153 words)
by - written on 14/09/00 (Useful, 14 readings)
Rating:

Sandalwood was used in the ancient world for religious ceremonies, and it is one of the key oils used in the Ayurvedic health system. Widely used in perfumes as it has the most delightful sensual and dizzy aroma. It has many therapeutic uses; for calming and cooling the body, reducing infection or fever and alleviating inflamation. It has a sedative effect, therefore useful for burning around the home for a claming and soothing atmoshpere. Used as a massage oil, it is indicated for anxiety and mild depression. On a more physical level, Sandalwood can be used for sore throats, laryngitis etc. Apply a few drops to a handkerchief and breath the oil in. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Great oil for everyone (109 words)
by - written on 10/09/00 (Somewhat useful, 32 readings)
Rating:

Another favourite of mine. Sandalwood smells woody! But a kind of fruity-sweet woodiness! The men normally like this one as it doesn’t smell too girlyish. It’s more commonly used for insomnia, tension, stress and depression and is great to massage into men who have a little libido problem! (As well as women) It also works as a relaxing sedative so…. The massage will go down a treat! They say it has aphrodisiac properties, and it probably does, however.. I tend to mix it with frankincense in the bath, it leaves me feel relaxed and confident. ...  Read the complete review
