SAVLON SKIN HEALING CREAM
From when I was just a little boy, one of my most vivid memories is that of Mum’s “magic cream”. Being only four or five years old I didn’t know any better, indeed I even believed that it was magic. If I ever cut myself, developed a rash or had a sore bottom, Mum would bring out the “magic cream” and very soon everything would be alright again. Of course, there is nothing particularly “magic” about Savlon, merely the special concoction of ingredients that make it what it is. Of course, twenty years later I wouldn’t dare let my Mother go rubbing cream on my bottom, or anywhere else for that matter, but ever since I was have been independent, a tube of Savlon has always had a precious place in my medicine cabinet.
THE PACKAGING
Savlon can easily be recognised by the distinctive bright blue tube that it comes in (The box is also bright blue). The tube that I buy is 30g and you cannot fail to spot the word SAVLON in gigantic lettering across the front, even the words “antiseptic” and “skin healing cream” can easily be read from a distance. In all, the design on the tube and the box is pretty basic, no pretty pictures or doodles, merely just plain white writing on a bright blue background.
SMELL AND TEXTURE
Savlon is one of those creams that is very soft on the nose, if that is the right way of putting it. The smell is something delicate, something faintly clinical and at the same time has a relatively sweet aftersmell. The smell, actually, is very pungent and it can easily be smelt once applied (so everyone knows you have it on). The cream has a very smooth texture and is fairly stiff to the touch, not a runny cream that drips all over the place whilst you try to apply it.
USES
Savlon skin healing cream has a whole range of uses. Indeed, as a child it was used on me for almost everything! I used to insist! The uses of the cream vary widely but basically anything to do with the skin. Hence, the cream can be used for different conditions ranging from burns and scalds, cuts and sores, to spots and bites, rashes and grazes. The possibilities are endless. If you have a skin complaint, chances are that Savlon will be beneficial in some way or another.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
The directions for using Savlon are very simple indeed. First of all you should always wash your hands before applying the cream and dry them thoroughly. Apply the cream gently to the affected area. That’s about it really! Clearly the amount of cream that you will use will depend on the size of the area being treated. The cream can be reapplied as necessary. However, as with all medicines, if the symptoms do not ease within a few days you should always make an appointment to see your doctor.
THE EFFECTS
Savlon’s effects are “magic”. The cream gently and effectively soothes the pain from cuts and rashes or any other skin complaint, and contains ingredients to prevent infection setting in. I have always found that Savlon quickly heals up minor skin complaints within a couple of days and does not irritate the area. Obviously this is just me, so it could be that if you have a different skin type you may experience some form of side effect but generally I have always found the cream to be extremely useful in the healing process.
THE INGREDIENTS
Active Ingredients: Cetrimide 0.5% w/w & Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.1% w/w.
Other Ingredients: Cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, methylhydroxybenzoate, propylhydrobenzoate, perfume & purified water.
Obviously if you are aware that you are allergic to any of the above ingredients or have experienced any side effects from other creams containing these ingredients you should consult your doctor before use.
CONCLUSION
Mummy was right. This cream is magic and I would most definitely recommend it for all ages. One thing to bear in mind though is that the cream is for external use only and should never be ingested or used in the mouth, ears or eyes.
Savlon should have a place in everyone’s medicine cabinet and I really mean that!
