This is one of the things I always have in the medical box, and have done for years.

~~What is it?~~

Basically, this is an antiseptic cream which can be used for first aid treatment (cuts and grazes, insect stings, minor burns) and skin problems (blisters and sores, spots, sunburn, chapped skin, nappy rash).

~~What does it do?~~

Apparently, this will gently soothe minor skin disorders and will help the healing process.

~~Product and Packaging~~

My most recent 30g tube comes in a blue box, which when opened reveals the tube. The tube itself is blue with the savlon logo on the front and instructions and directions on the back. It has a screw on/screw off white cap.

Open the cap and the first thing I notice is the totally antiseptic smell- typically savlon. This really does smell as though it is medicinal and will sort out any minor skin complaints.

The cream itself is white and of a thick consistency, making it easy to apply, and because it is quite thick, there is no chance of it running off the skin.

~~Using it~~

Quite simple to use. Make sure your hands are clean and apply to the affected\area.

There is a warning that if any symptoms persist, then medical advise should be sought. Other warnings include keeping it out of eyes and ears, and away from children.

~~My Verdict~~

I like the stuff and believe it works. My most recent need for it was a bad burn which did look as though it was infected. A trip to the pharmacist confirmed that it shouldn't be covered but that antiseptic cream should be applied frequently. Following this advise, I started on the savlon application. The cream is non greasy and does apply easily into the wound, without leaving hands sticky. Fortunately, there is no stinging sensation; it feels cool, and because of the medicinal smell I automatically believe it is doing some good. Because it is antiseptic and therefore healing the wound, there is often no need to cover the wound- just reapply frequently.

I don't know that I would use it for nappy rash as suggested but have used it on many other occasions for different skin complaints. I sometimes use it in the winter when my hands are dry and look a bit cracked and find that rather than drying them out further it does in fact moisturise them whilst healing any cuts. I have also used it on the children if they suffer some minor cut, mainly because it doesn't sting, and I know it will be cleaning the cut or graze.

A good all round antiseptic cream which I would recommend.
