Advantages: cheap, cost effective antiseptic cream

Disadvantages: none

Blue tube, white writing simple to identify this is a product with a place in every first aid kit however small or basic.

Actually I never bothered with anything like this until I got my tattoo, then they recommend that you use a skin healing cream with antiseptic properties on it until it heals, so Savlon it was.

The most common size of tube found is 30g in size but you can get bigger ones ideal for families or work first aid kits.

You know that antiseptic smell that hits the nostrils and throat and can make your eyes water, well this has it, which as far as I was concerned is the only problem, although the smell fades soon after I application (or maybe I was just getting used to it) which ever the reason for the scent becoming less apparent it is no where near as strong as the smell of germolene and much more pleasant than sudocreme.

It is easy to rub in to the area you want to apply it, a little amount really does cover a large area so it obviously is pretty good value. It doesn't feel heavy or sticky like some skin creams can do, it also is very moisturising.

According the packaging it is for use on cuts, insect bites and stings, sunburn, blisters, spots (I tried it but didn't make much difference), I had slight ezcema on my knuckles as a student (must stop hitting people or dragging them on the ground right) and it seemed to get better when I use savlon on it. The savlon is much cheaper than the prescribed cream from my doctor-and as a student I was tight by definition.

It like most creams is only for external use not sure what would happen if you did eat it but i suspect it wouldnt be much fun, hmm must try that with my loony mate who says he can eat anything and not get ill.....

For a 30g tube you can pay anything from £1 to £2 depending on which shop you go to, the product can be found in pretty much all supermarkets, and chemists, and I quite often find it in discount shops such as Body Care or a local Pound Shop. Each tube has a use by date on it but I have to admit to utterly ignoring these and finding no appreciable reduction in effectiveness.

Summary: For almost any skin complaint this could help.
