Advantages: Heals cuts really quickly

Disadvantages: Some might not like the smell.

A few weeks a go I had the names of my two sons tatooed onto my wrists and another one with my husbands name on the back of my neck. I was so happy with them that I didn't even think of asking the tattooist what I should use to help them heal. As I was half way down the road it this dawned on me but I was too embarressed to go back and in and ask. When I got home I rang a friend of mine who has a few tattoos and she recommended that I pick up a tube of Savlon.

I went to Sainsbury's and noticed that there were two sizes on the shelf. I went for the smaller tube of 30g and it cost me £1.19 which I thought was pretty reasonable considering Savlon is quite a big well known brand.

The tube recommends that you use it for cuts ad grazes and any other skin problems like blisters, nappy rash, sunburn and spots. You can also use it on small burns or shaving cuts so it's a bit of an all rounder and a good cream to have in the cupboard.

I wanted to use the cream straight away so the tattoos would start healing and be protected as soon as possible. Savlon is not only a healing cream but it has antiseptic in it which helps prevent against infections and considering my tattoos were open wounds, the last thing I wanted was them to become infected.

I opened the bright blue cardboard box that the cream was packaged in and pulled out the tube. As I scanned the tube I did wonder if the top would be sealed like most creams. I was glad to see that once I unscrewed the lid, the cream was ready to use as I didn't have anything handy that would pierce the top. I squeezed the tube from the bottom and applied it to my wound. The tiny bit that I had on my one wrist did all of my tattoos so it was obvious that one tube would last me a long time.

I found that the cream soaked into my skin very quickly and I didn't need to rub it for very long before the white stuff disappeared altogether. It smells much milder than thought it would. You can definately tell that it's got antiseptic properties to it as it reminds me of hospital's and my mum's first aid kit that she used to keep uner the stairs but it's not really strong. It soon fades too which I found a litte annoying as I quite like the smell.

My tattoos have healed really well without losing any of there colour. The skin around them is also very smooth and soft and thankfully there was absolutely no sign of infection along the way.

Since having this cream in he cupboard I've used it on different scrapes and cuts that I have found on my body. I'm a bit of a picker so tend to have little scabs here and there! Yes I know thats discusting! I'm really glad I have a tube in the first aid box now and won't have to go out and buy another one when I get my next tattoo. It's just a shame I couldn't use it to fix my son's broken arm when he feel off the sofa over the weekend!

Summary: A great cream for my first aid box.

Great review
BUT
Don' t use savlon on your tattoos, it'll draw the ink out as savlon heals therefore drawing out foreign things (the colour loss will be noticeable after they've healed completely)
Use bepanthen, its great and recommended by tattoo artists! x
