Advantages: Tons for a pound

Disadvantages: none

Every six months or so, I seem to get this rather annoying rash on my right knee. Sometimes I also get a similar irritation on my right elbow although here it is not nearly as irritating as that on my knee. A few years ago I was prescribed cream, which did somewhat, alleviate the irritation and had a similar effect on the rash. It never really went away just dies down a bit and still caused some discomfort. After a month or so it would disappear and then six months down the line back it came.

About 3-4 weeks ago the cycle started again and this time I thought I'd zap it for good with good old Sudocrem, it seemed to help a little but it wasn't for going away. I tried a new tube of the prescribed cream, which no longer requires prescription, still there. I even tried aftershave and other such toiletries to rid me of this now extremely annoying rash. It was now covering most of my knee and at the top part was kind of knobbly. It was driving me absolutely bonkers at times.

On a visit to Poundland at the weekend we chanced upon a tube of Savlon for you guessed it a quid. I have been applying the Savalon morning and night since Saturday night. The itching has dramatically reduced and the knobbliness has all but disappeared. The rash hasn't completely gone but it is slowly becoming les visible and the Savlon is definitely working better than any other remedy I have tried over the last few years. So chance does have a peculiar way of landing some good luck on you.

I have in the past used Savlon disinfectant and had found it to be both very effective and nice smelling. I used to sprinkle a little into my bath and I found that it helped in all manner of ways. Until now I'd always used another antiseptic creams for cuts and bruises but I'm definitely sticking with Savlon from now on. The tube is actually quite large for a pound being that it contains 40g of cream. It does have a nice smell, which is probably best described as a clean fresh smell, kind of a clinical hospital smell. There is a small leaflet which comes in the cardboard box which houses the tube, and this leaflet gives indications as to the best way to use the cream. A small amount of Savlon on a plaster before placing the plaster on a wound is a pretty good idea. Not only will it help prevent infection it will also help I the healing process. I haven't fortunately had cause to use it on bites but the leaflet does say that the cream will ease the itching associated with the bite. This means that the separate purchase of an antihistamine cream has been save. You can further save another few quid by using Savlon the ease the very unpleasant discomfort caused by sunburn and indeed nappy rash.

For a quid I've almost rid myself of a problem I've had for years, got a nice smelling tube of antiseptic cream and an antihistamine cream in my first aid box. The nappy rash doesn't really concern me but should a very you relative pop in for a visit I should be able to ease yet more discomfort should the occasion arise. I'm hoping that the summer will bring with it a better dose of sunshine than it did last year, and if she so obliges then I'll also have a sunburn cream handy too. All that for a quid.................I feel like I could beat the recession all on my own.

Summary: A miracle cream that sorts everything.......almost
