Advantages: Works Very Well, Soothing, Pleasant Aroma, Absorbed Well, Easy To Apply, Works Quickly

Disadvantages: The Amount Required Can Be Deceiving...

Savlon is an excellent antiseptic skin healing cream, which can be used for any sort of damage to the skin. It is said to 'cleanse and help prevent infection in first aid and minor skin problems'. It can be used for cuts, bruises, bites, sunburns, blisters and more. It is available in 30g and 60g tubes, and I would recommend getting the larger one as it's a useful and long-lasting medical item to have handy in your household.

It comes in a blue tube within a rectangular box. It is widely available at supermarkets and pharmacies. I bought a 60g tube for £2.29 and the 30g one costs around £1.50. The tube is blue and white with a clear, large 'Savlon' logo on it. It clearly says 'antiseptic' and 'skin healing cream'. The white lid easily screws off. The cream has a very slight antiseptic smell but is very pleasant and soothing.

The cream itself is white and of a reasonably thick consistency for a cream. It should be applied to the damaged skin and is absorbed very well and quickly. Make sure you wash out cuts before applying this by rinsing them with warm water. The best thing to do is apply Savlon to a clean cut or damaged skin before applying a plaster of some sort to help protect the skin and enable it time to heal without being further damaged. Savlon will stop infection and get the skin to heal itself a lot quicker, so it's really useful.

It's great to use as it's very easy to apply and does a superb job. It has a pleasant smell and is not too messy as it is of a rather thick consistency so doesn't come pouring out the tube. It is absorbed well by the skin but you should only apply a very small amount if it's a small cut, as it doesn't need to span across an area 50cm either side of a small cut! It's best to apply a small amount and then apply more if it's needed or you will waste it. This also enables it to initially be absorbed before applying more to help heal the skin before applying a plaster.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend Savlon as it does a great job and is soothing to use. It doesn't sting when you apply it to cuts due to the ingredients, yet it helps heal your skin very well. It has a very pleasant and satisfying medical smell and is amazing when you can take off a plaster the next day and a cut is almost fully healed! Make sure you apply it over night, as your skin will miraculously heal over night. I would highly recommend this over similar creams such as Germolene as it is more soothing and does not hurt open cuts. It lasts a long time so you will only need to buy one tube and it should last months, if not over a year unless you are constantly injuring yourself!
