Advantages: NO PAIN

Disadvantages: smells funny

OK well here are two little stories about my stupidity and both resulting in injury and great blood loss. However they were treated in slightly different ways…one with TCP and the other with savalon.

One night I was curled up in bed asleep on my boyfriend in my university room, it was about 3.30 am, we were doing anything wrong, we’d not been together long we were still in the cute stage talking all night till we fall asleep together. However my boyfriend’s best friend lives in the same flat as me in the room right opposite, and he didn’t know we were going out, and I didn’t really want it common knowledge he stayed with me occasionally.
So we are all tucked up and asleep when…
Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnn nnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg! The fire alarm was going off, PANICK! So in shock I leap out of bed, it is pitch black (the light switch is by the door) I can’t see because I couldn’t find my glasses, and I attempt to get to my desk where my trousers were neatly folded in an attempt to be dressed and make things slightly better than they did!!!

However in my fumbled attempt to get out with my boyfriend (both dressed) before my flatmates surfaced and made comments, I managed to trip over my chair and stamp on my boyfriend’s belt so that the metal bit stuck in my foot. We separated and went down different staircases meeting at the bottom of the block. There was blood pouring off my foot and into my shoe, damn it hurt, I’d cut a chunk out of my foot and severed the end off my toe on the chair. Nasty!!! So by this time I had been walking around in the mud at the bottom of the block and the cuts were filled with blood and dirt, I was carried back to my room and my beloved fetched TCP which he poured undiluted into the stream of a running shower directed at my foot. AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr rrrrr
rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I think you could hear the screams 100 miles away man it hurt, plus my shower stank for about a week afterwards.

My other story is shorted you will be pleased to hear, this involved a Halloween party my flatmates and I were getting ready for, in the kitchen 2 girls were cooking, 1 was sowing stars onto a costume, and 2 lads were fighting and getting ready. I was cutting up some carrots with a very big knife, and arguing with the two lads simultaneously, ok I am sure you can see where this is going. I managed to remove a big lump of skin, well actually about half my thumb! This time I managed to not show my boyfriend and therefore I avoided the TCP “treatment” I tied my thumb up nicely and put savalon on it, and after a lot of moaning and leaving blood over my ensuite, not to mention trying to make my flatmate faint as he hates blood, I went out to the party.

The best thing about the savalon, is that is doesn’t sting!!!!! The water does when you wash it but was soon as the cream is applied it is cooling and soothing and doesn’t cause you to scream, cry and shout obscenities. Something I was very pleased about after my TCP experience. This means that if you use it on children they might actually stand still long enough to let you apply it, lowering the chances of them getting it all infected and going septic, which is good, if it hurt I bet they would never let you close enough to do it next time they cut or graze themselves. And believe me children are always landing on their knees!

Another good thing this that, you can take a tube of savalon in a handbag, or just have it around the house. It is relatively cheap especially since it is really good stuff it stops infection and aids healing. My thumb is still scarred now but it was covered with skin and healing well in a few days, it healed much quicker than the foot injury and I am sure that it was the savalon that made the greatest differen
ce. A scab had formed by the time I got home in the early hours of the morning. The next day I went on an adventure weekend taking the cream with me to keep the cut clean and to stop infection. Both were successful and despite crawling around in mud and breaking all my finger nails my thumb didn’t go septic and drop off, which I was very pleased about.

Savalon comes in a tube in a cream form but it is also available in a liquid for washing cuts and grazes to clean them, a spray that can be used anywhere and may be useful on holidays and things, as well as active heal plasters that can hold deep cuts together to avoid having stitches.

Savalon is a good first aid item, I would recommend for everyone to have around the house, it is really versatile and can be used on almost every injury I can think of, other than internal eating it is not advised! Then again neither is cutting off your thumb!!!
