Advantages: It actually works and is quick and easy

Disadvantages: Costly and for verrucas take several treatments

*Introduction*

When I used to participate in a karate club a few years ago I was forever getting verrucas. Getting rid of these verrucas was always extremely hard work so when I saw that two had appeared on the heal of my foot, my initial thoughts were "Oh no, not again." This was until I saw in Tesco, Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover on the shelf. This product looked significantly easier and quicker to use than the products I had used in the past so I bought it like a shot.

*What Do You Use Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover For?*

This product is used for the treatment of common warts and verrucas.

*What Do You Get In The Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover Box?*

Inside the box, you will find 12 foam applications and an aerosol dispenser.

*The Packaging*

The packaging of this product is similar to the majority of Scholl products. The yellow and blue colours are recognisable to the consumer when looking for the product on shop shelves and it is one of the things that led me to buy this verruca and wart remover as I know the brand have a good reputation. It is a fairly small, compact box with a piece of cardboard inside that is used as a separator. On one side is the aerosol can and in the other is a plastic bag containing the 12 applicators.

*How Does Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover Work?*

This product operates by freezing the core of the wart or verruca. When you hold the applicator down, the applicator is filled with a very cold liquid which you apply directly to the wart/verruaca. When you do this, the area of the foot that you re treating will feel cold and it is possible that it may tingle as a result of the freezing. It is possible that you will feel an aching or stinging sensation as well. When you remove the applicator, these symptoms will reduce.

*Application*

The application of this product is very easy and all you need to do is follow the five steps that I will describe below:

1. Take the aerosol can and attach a foam applicator to the opening.
2. Remove the protective cap. Then whilst keeping the can upright, press and hold the dispensing button for approximately 3-5 seconds. When you see droplets fall from the tip of the foam applicator, stop holding this.
3. Turn the applicator so that it is facing downwards and wait for 15 seconds as this is time enough to allow the bud of the applicator to reach the freezing temperature that is required.
4. Gently place the tip of the foam applicator onto the verruca/wart that you are freezing. You should apply this directly to the centre of the verruca/wart for 30-40 seconds, ensuring that you hold it in place. Make sure that you do not dab or spray whilst doing this.
5. When the treatment has been completed, you should discard the foam applicator that you have used. Do not, under any circumstances reuse this.

If you follow these instructions, which are described clearly on the side of the box, you will have no problem with the application of this product. It is simple and fast to do and will be very effective if performed correctly.

*What Do You Do After Completion of The Treatment?*

Once the treatment has been completed you must ensure that you keep the area that you have just tended to clean. Personally, I tend to do this process before going to bed so that I am not walking around on the treated area. Additionally, you need to make sure that you don't pick or scratch at the area. This might be difficult if you are anything like me, but as tempting as it may seem at the time, it will only cause more harm than good. If the area blisters, you should use a plaster to protect the area if you feel this is necessary.

*Price and Availability*

Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover can be purchased for £11.49. When you first hear that amount, it sounds like it is quite a lot of money. But you should remember that this is for 12 applications. Also, in my experience, I would have paid double for this quick and easy solution to my verruca problem.

This product is available to buy from numerous different stores such as Tesco, Wilkinson and Boots. Alternatively, you can buy this directly from www.scholl.com although at an additional delivery cost of £2.99.

*When Shouldn't You Use This?*

There are a number of scenarios when you shouldn't use this product. These include the following:
- Children under 4 years of age
- On moles, birth marks or skin tags or on dark colours, hairy or unusual looking skin.
- On thin skin, genital warts, mucous membranes or on swelled or red skin.
- If diabetic or suffer from poor blood circulation.
- If pregnant or whilst breastfeeding.
- With any other method of wart/verruca removal treatment.

*How Many Treatments Are Required?*

The number of treatments required depends on whether it is a wart or verruca that you are caring for.

Common warts: Typically only one treatment is necessary although if you find the wart isn't removed you can repeat this process at two week intervals up to a maximum of four treatments.

Verrucas: Usually more treatments are required to treat a verruca. In my experience, I have found it to be three applications although you can repeat it to four if necessary.

For cases like mine, where you have multiple verrucas/warts close to each other, you should make sure that you treat these one at a time with two week intervals.

If the verruca or wart persists after the maximum amount of treatments has been exerted, ensure that you consult your doctor for advice on how you should proceed, although in my experience, the verruca has gone before I have needed to take such action.

*Are There Any Side Effects?*

You may experience minor pain when using this product and it may blister after you have used it. Also, you may find that you have temporary loss of normal skin colour, although this will return fairly quickly.

*Would I Recommend This Product?*

There is no question that I would recommend this product. Scholl Verruca and Wart Remover is clinically claims to be proven to be as effective as the liquid nitrogen freezing method used in hospitals and clinics. I have not used this nitrogen freezing method but I highly recommend this product. I have found it to be exceptionally easy to use with clear, concise instructions given on the sides of the box. In addition to its ease of use, it worked rapidly and effectively.

*Overall*

I have been delighted with my purchase of Scholl Freeze Verruca and Wart Remover. I can't speak for the removal of warts, but as for verrucas, this works excellently. I had read negative reviews about this before I decided to purchase it anyway and I am pleased that I did so. I can only guess that they have improved their formula as my experience has only been a positive one.

Summary: A rapid and effective way to remove verrucas and warts

I used a similar product for 2 warts on my finger, and 2 on my foot, they didn't seem to go away after the 4 applications, so I left them, 6 months later they were gone, it just took a long time for the 'core' to grow out I guess. I did them all at the same time, they say not too because of the effect of having a blister but I'm too impatient to wait 2 weeks between each, and I still have all my digits! Useful if you don't want to or can't get the doctor to freeze them.

A few years ago I had a persistent wart at the jawline, near the neck. It looked like a spot, but it would not go away and every time I picked on it it just got harder. I've used one of the first similar freezing products in the market and it worked very well and was very effective. I applied a scarring preventive creme for a few days afterwords and it healed very well. Mind you, the neck area is very sensitive, but although the application felt a bit uncomfortable, I did not feel real pain.

These products are great IMO. But, in clinical trials it is believed that this cryoptherapy is not as effective as Salicylic acid, so if you are unfortunate enough not to get results you can try stuff like the Scholl Verruca Medicated Discs. However, the Salicylic acid will scar your face/neck, this is why these products are suggested for feet verrucas only...
