Advantages: Eases Wind, suitable in pregnancy

Disadvantages: Can take time to kick in

Pregnancy can do many a strange thing to a woman what with all those changes going on in her body, hormones bouncing all over the place. One very unfortunate side effect can be trapped wind and bloating, unpleasant in itself but when you're feeling the strain of being pregnant and the discomfort of the wind it can all become a bit too much. An odd side effect of this my third pregnancy has been a rather strange reaction to eating bananas, usually one of my more regularly eaten fruits I found that even a single bite would leave me feeling like I was about to spontaneously combust, it was while I was visiting my mum one day and complaining about the bloating that she recommended Wind-eze and fortunately had a packet she could give me to ease my discomfort.

Wind-eze is designed specifically for the pain and discomfort of trapped wind, coming in boxes of 30 tablets and mildly peppermint flavoured. The tablets come in 3 sheets of 10 and are small white discs roughly 1cm across, I can see everyone panicking now about trying to swallow a 1cm tablet but there's no need to worry as Wind-eze tablets are designed to be chewed rather than swallowed whole. If suffering with trapped wind it is recommended you take 1 tablet up to 3-4 times daily, or as required, for the relief of your symptoms, generally after meals if that's when you're prone to trapped wind and bloating but can also be taken before bedtime if your sleep is disrupted by the problem. The tablets are suitable for pregnant women and those who are breast feeding, it is not suitable for those under 12 years of age and it is technically a medicine so it is always recommended that you read the ingredients to be sure there is nothing you may have an allergic reaction to, and as with all treatments if your symptoms persist then consult your doctor.

I was somewhat dubious when I first needed to resort to using the tablets, the idea of a tablet you have to chew isn't exactly appealing and I wasn't sure how the product would work, if at all. As I chewed through the tablet though I was pleasantly surprised, it had a mildly minty taste, nothing too strong like a polo mint but far more subtle, it was a little chalky in taste but fortunately not in texture and I found in no time I had finished the tablet. The tablet didn't take long to start to work and I could feel the bloating gradually lessen, I had expected to experience some kind of popping sensation from bubbles of trapped air or even to become burpy or flatulent as the gas dispersed but instead all I experienced was a gradual lessening of the trapped air, easing the discomfort until finally it had gone completely. One tablet has always been enough to ease a bout of bloating so it's reassuring to know that I don't need excessive amounts to treat the problem and of course I manage to keep an air of dignity and stay ladylike as there are no explosive bursts of wind to worry about. Occasionally the tablets have taken a little longer to kick in, in particularly severe bouts of trapped wind, so I don't feel confident that I could eat a bunch of bananas just yet, it's not that they don't work or take effect but they take longer to start working leaving me in discomfort longer than I'd like.

I can highly recommend these tablets especially in milder cases of trapped wind, of course down to the very nature of the product and it being a medicine different people will have different levels of success and different experiences, all I can say is that I'm happy using them, they're safe for pregnant women which is great as we're quite prone to bloating and at a cost of around £3.50 for 30 tablets they're very affordable.

Another great option is simply peppermint cordial! Sounds strange, but I've seen it work many times and its used at our local hospital for this reason! Great review :-)
