Advantages: Excellent for pain relief, Easy to take

Disadvantages: Some possible dizziness

Solpadol is a strong medicine and is used to treat severe pain. It comes in the following forms:
1) Solpadol capsules.
2) Solpadol effervescent tablets.
3) Solpadol caplets.

I usually get the caplets from the chemist on prescription, as they are only prescribed by the doctor.

Each tablet, capsule or caplet contains 500mg Paracetamol Ph Eur, and 30gm Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate Ph Eur.

Solpadol caplets are white in colour and are shaped like capsule tablets with the word Solpadol on one side. They come in cartons of 4, 30, or 100. As well as the ingredients mentioned above, these also contain pregelatinised starch, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, talc, croscarmellose sodium(type A), povidone, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and potassium sorbate.
The other forms contain slightly different ingredients, but not having been prescribed them I cannot comment.

To be able to take any of the above types you should not be allergic to Codeine, Paracetamol, or any of the other ingregients.
Also, you should not take them if you suffer from the following:
1) severe asthmatic attacks, or breathing difficulties.
2) had a recent bad head injury or gall bladder operation.
3) if you are on anti-depressants.
4) an alcoholic.

Solpadol should NOT be given to anyone under the age of 12. If you are pregnant you should ask your doctor if it is ok to take Solpadol.
The normal dose is 2 caplets no more than every 4 hours, with no more than 8 in any 24 hour period.
The caplets and capsules can be taken with a drink of water. In the case of the effervescent tablets these should be dissolved in half a glass of water.
NO other medicine containing Paracetamol MUST be taken whilst you are on a course of Solpadol.

As I have found out to my cost, Solpadol may cause drowsiness or dizziness. The latter has happened to me and it can be a very weird feeling. I have had to be driven home fr
om work as my hands were shaking.

Sometimes an allergic reaction may occur. For example, you may get a skin rash, have swelling or itching. If this happens then you must contact your doctor immediately.

To store Solpadol, you should keep them in the original packing and protect from moisture and do not store above 25C or 75F.

For me, on the whole, Solpadol caplets are an excellent way of treating real pain, eg back ache or severe tooth ache.
I recommend these to any prospective sufferers, but DO consult your doctor first.
