Disadvantages: Doesn't help me stay asleep, taste horrible
I've been having quite a bit of trouble sleeping recently. I've always suffered on and off with bouts of insomnia but this was becoming a regular thing so I went about looking for something to help me out a bit. I've tried Malls Sleep before and they worked to some extent but I decided to see if something else would work better. I picked up a box of 30 Sominex Herbal in Morrisons for £4.87.
They come in a small card box with a pretty little floral design on the front which I find makes it really easy to spot in amongst all the more clinical style packaging on the medicine shelves. In the box are 2 packs of tablets and an information leaflet. There are 15 tablets in each pack, packaged in plastic and foil, where you just push the plastic up so that the tablet comes up through the foil.
The tablets are a traditional herbal remedy to soothe and so aid restful sleep.They contain hops, valerian and passion flower, which are all natural sedatives. The recommended dose is 2 tablets taken an hour before going to bed.
The small round tablets are a mucky green colour with a strong herbal smell. I find they are very easy to swallow but for anyone who does have trouble swallowing tablets be warned they have a very strong and unpleasant taste, so if you don't think you'll be able to swallow them straight down I'd recommend breaking them up into smaller pieces.
I have found that these tablets do help me to drift off to sleep much quicker, I usually start feeling a little drowsy in the last minutes before going to bed, and then within an hour of going to bed I've drifted off to sleep. However I often find that I wake up several times during the night, or wake up after only a few hours, whereas normally once I actually get to sleep I don't wake up at all during the night. So it is useful only really useful for making sure I do actually get some sleep at times when I wouldn't otherwise, rather than helping me get enough sleep.
Summary: Useful for times when you can't get to sleep, but not for keeping you asleep
