Advantages: soothing, cooling, pain relief, antiseptic

I was suffering really bad with a sore throat for a couple of days and tried painkillers but they did nothing to sooth my throat. I got some strepsils from the chemist at the doctors for £4.60 and I got 36 lozengers.

Strepsils contain antiseptic to fight against the infection that led to the sore throat in the first place and anaesthetic to reduce the pain. They basically help to relieve pain whilst clearing up the infection in your throat.

The look pretty similar to normal strepsils but apparently have some different ingredients which make them better and more effective. The first lozenger I had didn't really do anything for me, after I had eaten about 4 lozengers, my thoat started to feel a bit better and I could swallow more easily. I was eating these lozengers one every hour which sounds extreme but I felt awful.

I ended up finishing the packet of 36 lozengers in five days which was ridiculous. They made me feel better for a while but then as the pain came back I'd take another one.

I had the blackcurrent flavour but they also come in blackcherry flavour as well. I didn't really like this as I prefer to have orange flavours but the blackurrant lozengers were OK. I wasn't too fussed about the taste, just as long as they soothed my throat. They cost a little more than the regular Strepsils. I had used the strepsils cool in the past and they had been really good at soothing a sore throat but the taste was quite nasty, I really disliked the taste of them which is another reason I opted to try these.

These lozengers made the difference for me. They helped to sooth my throat and are reasonably priced although I think supermarkets are cheaper than chemists. It turned out I had tonsilitus, so the antiseptic didn't make a lot of difference for me and my throat was bad for a fortnight but these certainly made the pain less than it would have been without them so I would recommend them to others.

Summary: good to sooth a sore throat on a regular basis
