Advantages: Eases throats

Disadvantages: Doesn't cure sore throats

I am one of those people that suffers from sore throats; I always have and countless tests from doctors have come back showing up nothing. "It's just one of those things" I get told. A couple of days ago I woke up with painful glands and a really dry feeling in my throat..that familiar feeling like a storm brewing.
I popped up to Superdrug as there is a store near to where I live and purchased some Strepsils to ease the pain that was increasing as the day went on.

So what are they?~
Strepsils are a lozenge designed to fight infection and ease any symptoms associated with sore throats.

I have tried many of the different flavours and varieties over the years but this particular box I picked up and am reviewing is 'Orange and Vitamin C'.
I'm all for taking extra vitamin c and I am a lover of orange (not in a tangoed way) but the main reason for my choice was the fact these were the cheapest of the bunch!

Strepsils are a small circular throat sweet about a centremetre in diameter - no I haven't got the ruler out and started measuring them..honestly!
They are aimed at easing the throat and killing any infection as mentioned in the paragraph above and the active ingredients in these powerful pellets are:
2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol 1.2mg
Amylmetacresol 0.6mg
Oh and some good old Vitamin C.

I have no idea what those active ingredients are (apart from Vit C)but on some rare off chance you have an allergy to them then best avoid.

How to take~
There's nothing technical here - you just pop one in your mouth and let it dissolve to let it get to work on that throat.
The only bit I did find worrying and amusing at the same time was the "For oral administration only."..Now these are a lozenge for your throat so goodness knows why you would want to insert them somewhere else???

The usual applies here on if symptoms persist see a doctor or if any allergies arise after taking them to also see one. Go to your nearest A + E department if you have not taken it orally..no not on the instructions but thought I would just throw that in!

Price and packaging~
Nothing too exciting here - a small white cardboard box with Strepsils on the front and a picture of an orange circle (supposedly a strepsil). Inside the box is two strips of foil containing 8 tabs per strip. These cost me £3.44 for 16 from Superdrug though prices may vary.

Do they work?~
Well they do definitely ease the throat and bring relief for about half an hour. I wouldn't go as far as saying they cure them as I don't believe they do.
They take the pain away for a while and that's good enough for me!

Would recommend these for sore throats though they are getting a bit expensive.

Summary: Buy them

Nothing ever works for me - not even gargling with salt and water which is what the doc recommends. They are just a placebo I think x

You could try gargling with soluble aspirin. My GP told me to try that years ago and it does seem to work x
