Advantages: easy carry packet,sweet tasting
Disadvantages: expensive
Sore throats again, and loosing my voice fast, I decided to visit the chemist nearby to see if ther was anything I could buy to ease the soreness. I croaked( and even thought of using sign language at this point) because of the soreness,to the pharmacist that my throat felt like I had just swallowed a whole packet of razor blades. She asked me how long I had been like it for? I replied a couple of days.On hearing this I expected to be shown the latest medicine cure. Instead she suggested that firstly if I have central heating to place a small bowl of water in the room, so the air did not overdry, refrain from smoking (I don't anyway) and to suck boiled sweets. Then to gargle with half a teaspoon of salt, in a glass of warm water. Oh and also to take plenty of hot drinks.I explained rather quietly with the sore throat that is there something easier as I could hardly gargle with the salt water whilst trying to do shopping. She showed me this packet of strepsils. I decided to purchase them. The ones I brought were a honey and lemon flavour, and cost me over two pounds to purchase them, having over twenty in the box. The instructions were very clear and states no more than eight to be taken in a twenty-four hour period of time.If pregnant do not take. The packet was very easy to fit into my pocket or bag. The taste was not too strong and pleasent. I was surprised to find out that although they contained antiseptics that the salt remedy was the one that was better. These were better when out though and the sweet taste definately better than the salt one. Strepsils unfortunately are expensive and little more than a boiled sweet in fact some of them have high sugar contents, and are made by confectioners not drug companies. The chemist information I was given worked better so in future I think it will be gargle, and boiled sweets or peppermints for me. Well it is easy to gaggle with the salt water and pop
a nice sweet in after to take the taste away. Thats my excuse for sucking at the sweets..............

- 22/04/01 I like honey and lemon strepsils too. I find them excellent for a tickly throat, but as you say not very effective for a sore throat. For this painful condition I can highly recommend Merocaine lozenges. They completely numb your throat (and tongue). |

- 21/04/01 I buy Strepsils too, but a brief gargle with whisky works better, LOL! |

- 11/04/01 Funny how sometimes the old simple solutions are still the best. |
