Advantages: Unclogs nose somewhat, Can be cheap in some shops, Easy to swallow
Disadvantages: Some may be unable to take these, Can be expensive in some shops, need to take up to 4 a day
Im sat here, clutching a box of Sudafed, because Ive been given a horrid cold by my ever thoughful boyfriend, who didnt want to deprive me of the joys of accompanying him in his current chest coughed misery. As if it isnt enough that Im allergic to his cats and am currently in the middle of the worlds worst pollen allergy, trying to resist the temptation of scratching my itchy, eczema suffering skin and puffing on my inhaler to relieve my asthma (what does he see in me again?) So, heres the symptoms, nasal congestion, due to a number of factors - a cold, allergies, hayfever. A sore throat caused by the cold and the constant thirst brought on my my inhaler. Aching muscles - standard with a cold, headache - ditto, and Im also feeling abit chesty, and not in the good way. Chewing on Airwaves gum, which I find utterly vile, has failed to ease my snotty nose and my sinuses are still making me feel like Ive had a hearty punch in the nose. My antihistmaines have done naff all to save me from my pollen hell, although I did get through lst night with a cat sleeping on my feet without having an asthma attack. Its strange that my 2 allergies, hayfever and fur, AND my cold all have the same symptoms but I can tell the difference between them, the sneezes and the runny eyes are different with each one - does anybody else notice this? Anyway, Ive also been sucking on some natural anti allergy tablets aswell to alleviate some hayfever symptoms (Luffa Complex from Bioforce.co.uk, about £6.50 for 120 tablets and they really work - check it out!) So Im pretty much just left with my cold symptons to deal with, as if Im not drugged up to my eyeballs enough. (For the record Ive also had a multivitamin and been sucking on a bottle of Olbas Oil to try and make the snot go away) I instructed my boyfriend to drive me to Morrisons and ordered him to pay for my medicine, since the whole thing was his fault, spreading his yukky germs, I'll show him! He
got himself some Beechams all in one liquid, yuk yuk yuk, expectorants always make me throw up, so I wont be going near this, I much prefer being ill. I got myself some Sudafed Non Drowsy Congestion Reelief Capsules (£2.39 for 12 from Morrisons) I also got some sour Chewits but thats a different op entirely! lol The tablets are little, slim, yellow capsules, very easy to swallow without liquid, even for me who cant do with taking tablets without a gallon of water. Youre supposed to take one tablet up to four times a day if youre over 12 years old, which unfortunately I am. If youre lucky enough to be under 12 then too bad, you dont get congestion relief! However you do get to have Tixylix when you've got a cough - lucky buggers. So shortly after taking my first capsule, I can breathe in and out through my nose - only one nostril mind. I'll take another one shortly and update below. Firstly though, drugs unfortunately dont come without their side effects, and the side effects you might be unlucky enough to experience with Sudafed are a fast heart rate, changes in heart rhythm, palpitations, high blood pressure, sickness, headache and in men, urine retention. You should avoid these tablets if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients - the main one being phenylephrine hydrochloride, if you have heart or prostate problems, high blood pressure, kidney issues, diabetes, glaucoma, overactive thyroid or circulation issues. You shouldnt take these with other decongestants or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, those who have drepression and are treating it with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors should avoid these tablets. UPDATE ON CAPSULE PERFORMANCE I have taken a few capsules now, as per the instructions, and they do work somewhat in aiding decongestion. I have noticed my nose is less runny and I can breathe easier out of my nose than when I was not taking the tablets. I will continue to use the
m and I would keep some in my medicine cabinet for emergency congestion issues! I have not expereinced any side effects when using this product, but saying that I hardly ever experience side effects from anything, so dont assume that you'll be the same! Thanks for reading! Nat :o)
