~~~~~ Sudocrem ~~~~~
In 1931 Thomas Smith, a professor of pharmacy in Dublin, developed a cream in the back of his shop. The cream was an antiseptic healing cream which was for treating nappy rash, eczema, sores and other skin complaints. In the 1950s smith's cream became known as sudocrem. By the 1960s sudocrem was a steady seller in Ireland abd by 1970 the marketing and distributing was improved and sales rose again. During the 1970s sudocrem was introduced to Northern Ireland and North West England and in 1977 it was launched all over Great Britain. Since then Sudocrem has become a market leading baby cream in the UK and Ireland. Sudocrem is now a highly trusted brand to prevent or treat nappy rash and is used widely to treat other skin complaints. Sudocrem has changed very little over the past 70 years and its water repellant base helps to stop anything which will irritate your babies skin from coming into contact with the sore area to give the skin time to heal.
~~~~~ The product ~~~~~
The cream comes in a round grey plastic tub with a white label on. On the tub there is a red box with Sudocrem writen in white letters, underneath this it says Antiseptic healing cream in red letters then Napkin rash, eczema, bed sores, sunburn, minor burns, surface wounds, acne, chilblains all in black writing. There is also all the information for the product. It also gives you a use by date on the label.
The cream is thick and white. When I smell it in the tub it has a slight antiseptic smell but not strong like you would expect from an antiseptic cream. As the cream is thick you only need to use a very small amount to apply a thin layer as directed.
~~~~~ What I think ~~~~~
~ Nappy Rash ~
I think this cream clears up slight nappy rash well enough but if the twins are really sore I usually use another cream as this doesn't seem to clear it when they are really bad.
~ Eczema ~
I suffer with eczema on my hands and although this cream doesn't totally clear it it does make it a better and is the only cream I have used that stops the itching straight away.
I would recommend using this cream for mild nappy rash though not if your child is very sore. I would definately reccommened sudocrem to ease the itching of eczema as I have found it to be the the best and quickest working and though it seems an expensive cream it lasts a long time as you only need to apply a thin layer so it is good value for money.
