Advantages: Clears up nappy rash a treat

Disadvantages: None

Nappy rash is one of the most rotten things that your baby can suffer with. It's so sore (and on such a sensitive bit of the body!), and every time they pee (which is pretty often when they are little) it inflames the rash. Luckily, my two haven't suffered with it too badly, but they've had red bums from time to time and when they do, out comes the Sudocrem.

Sudocrem is the market leader in nappy rash treatments. It has a water-repellent base which forms a protective barrier against pee and poo. It also moisturises the skin so that the nappy rash doesn't end up making it rough and chapped.

The active ingredients of Sudocrem are: hypoallergenic lanolin, to moisturise, zinc oxide to reduce the loss of tissue fluid,
Peru Balsam which is recognised for its healing properties and
benzyl alcohol to act as a weak local anaesthetic, a disinfectant/antibacterial agent.

Although it is primarily used for nappy rash, Sudocrem can also be used on dribble rashes, sunburn and small cuts and grazes, owing to its antiseptic, antibacterial properties.

To use, first clean your baby's bottom with wipes or cotton wool and water. Pat dry with a towel or tissue and smooth over a very thin layer of Sudocrem around their bottom. Put on a fresh nappy and you're done.

Now to the important bit - does it work? Actually, it does. Whenever my two have had a red bum, I've applied a layer of this and a few hours later their bits and bobs are back to normal. A friend of mine has a little girl whose nappy rash was so bad that she couldn't even sit down and she says that Sudocrem provided a lot of relief but it took a couple of days to completely clear it up.

Sudocrem comes in a variety of sizes - 400g, 250g, 125g and 60g tubs and they also do a mini tub as a free sample - ask your health visitor or GP as they usually have some knocking around. The 400g tub costs around £5.50 . How long it lasts depends on how often you use it, but a little goes a long way so a tub this size lasts my two for about three months.

Summary: The best product I've found for nappy rash
