Advantages: does the job
Disadvantages: doesn't always do the job!
Being a parent has brought this stuff into my life again, and I have to say it is a wonder cream!
Sudocrem is basically a thick white cream that has antiseptic healing properties. It is primarily used for treating nappy rash, eczema, bed sores and cuts & grazes.
To apply, you rub a generous amount of cream on the affected area, and then cover it with something like a nappy or plaster. I mostly use this for any rashes my boys get in the nappy area, and it basically takes around 24 hours to heal small sores or rashes.
I will say though that you should never avoid seeing a doctor if the problem is not responding. My second son got a rash that got pretty bad and he ended up having to be admitted to hospital for IV drugs to sort it out. So, try this first, but if it hasn't made a noticeable difference within 24 hours, then go see a doctor!
The ncie thing about it is how it comes in pots of different shapes and sizes. One of the pots is jsut tiny (15g) and is brilliant for keeping in your bag, whereas the big heavy duty pots are better for home.
The bad thing about it is the way it gets everywhere; the cream is very greasy. and so you will struggle to wash off all residue from your hands after applying it. It often leaves a greasy coating that is see-through. My advice is to wash with very hot water and soap, then to dry your hands with a paper towel to get it all off.
Also, don't apply it to any sort of sore that you think needs to dry out, as it creates a sort of protective barrier that will prevent air getting to it, which is not always what you need.
All in all, a must-have first port of call for rashes and sores, but don't neglect the area if it hasn't cleared up within 24 hours.
Summary: do it

- 03/06/09 I put some on my sunburn (which was so bad my whole arm swellelled up) and it really helped, the milder areas of sunburn looked a lot less red after leaving it on overnight. |
