Advantages: Medicated, barrier creme

Disadvantages: Does not sink into your skin

I first heard of sudocrem when an ex boyfriend insisted on buying some as he started to get weird little blisters on his feet from long hours doing manual work in a factory wearing safety shoes. I later found out it is a life saver for many parents when faced with nappy rash.

It is best described as a medicated ointment. The grey tubs can be bought in Boots, most supermarkets and chemists. 250g tubs sell online for around £5-7. I bought a smaller tub for around £3 a few years ago. This is the sort of thing, unless you have small children and use a lot of it, one tub will sit in the bathroom cabinet until something happens and you need it.

I have used it on sunburn and skin irriatations. It didn't help me when I had contact dermatitis on my face after my facewash brand changed the ingredients and brought out a "new" version of a facewash I had been using, but that was a breakout needing antibiotics, not a simple skin irritation or just dry skin.

Sudocrem is a barrier creme- it forms a protective layer OVER your skin so it won't sink in to your skin. It is quite difficult to rub in as it is the same as putting Windolene on windows and smearing it around so no-one can see in. It has a medicated smell too which is quite mild and not too overpowering.

So, it won't cure somethings but for nappy rash, minor burns or sunburn, eczema and skin sores it is very useful. Overall- a good buy to just keep in the medicines cabinet.

Summary: Good to keep a tub handy
