Disadvantages: Stains easily, would not advise to use on face
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Sudocrem was developed over 70 years ago. It is made by Forset Tosara Limited one of the companies that make up Forest Laboratories Europe. They are a group that produce ethical branded products available on prescription and over the counter.
WHAT IS IT FOR?
It is a healing cream with many applications: eczema, minor burns, nappy rash, sunburn and bed sores to name but a few. It has antifungal, antibacterial, anaesthetic and antiseptic properties. With added emolients it is even suitable for very dry skin.
MY EXPERIENCES WITH THE CREAM
I have found that a very small amount will go a long way making it economical. I use the cream predominantly for nappy rash and when using it for this it does not only soothe the inflamed area but also prevents further recurrence of the condition. My son is now 7 months old and has not needed Canesten. It also smells clinically fresh.
I occasionally use it for applying to cuts or blisters before applying a plaster to stop infection, it also has a thin waterproof barrier meaning that getting the wound wet is less of a worry.
The website does say that it will disappear after massaging it in - this does not seem to be the case, I think the high content of zinc means it will not rub in completely. Because of this I do not use it on my face, I have olive coloured skin and even a small amount makes me look like a vampire! I therefore stick to using my witch-hazel stick instead.
FORMATS
It is available in 60g, 125g, 250g, 400g tubs and a 30g tube (they recommend this option for travelling). I have found free sample pots that you receive with your Bounty packs are worth saving and washing out for refilling from a larger tub as they are small enough to fit in your baby's changing bag.
Summary: Lovely clean smelling, gentle, healing cream!
