TCP - The Versatile Antiseptic >-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-< The playground saviour? >-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-< Everyone remembers falling over as children and grazing their knees, don’t they? Well, maybe not quite everybody. For some, their childhood will now seem a distant memory, for others, the days of running around the playground may not seem so long ago. In spite of this, it is to be noted that cuts and grazes are not confined to the playground. Indeed, even as adults we may suffer the misfortune of taking a tumble whilst out shopping, playing ... I am quite certain that most homes keep an antiseptic preparation of some sort, that is conveniently and readily available at all times. Our household is no different and especially if you have two grown up children, the need for such medications are imperative. Since my childhood days my family has always used Dettol Antiseptic solution and infact I had written an opinion about this. However in recent times we have also started using TCP Liquid. I came across this when I was at a friends home and was using their bathroom. Being of the inquisitive nature I had a closer look at the bottle and had a look at the indications and I must say I was ... Read the complete review

TCP (Trichlorophenylmethyliodosalicyl) is a very common first aid kit addition as it has a multitude uses. It can be used for cuts and grazes, bites and stings, sore throats and mouth ulcers to mention just a few. A 100ml bottle of TCP will set you back about £1.99. The bottle is very old fashioned and made of brown glass so we can not see the yellow tinged antiseptic liquid that is contained within, and has a plastic lid. There is no childproof cap on the bottle which I find a bit worrisome as TCP is not to be swallowed and the bottle does say to keep out of the reach and sight of children. As I mentioned the there are many uses for TCP and I will ... Read the complete review

Even before kids, I have always had a bottle of this tucked away somewhere in the house for emergency use. Coming in a bit of an old fashioned brown glass bottle with a white plastic screw top lid, we seem to get through this quite quickly in our house because it is so good at killing germs and preventing infection in the skin. The only thing that I find hard to bear with it is the distinctive medicated smell that is a dead giveaway that you have used it. TCP is a clear yellow liquid that is a mild antiseptic, which makes it ideal to stock in your first aid supplies. I find the best way to apply this is using a clean bit of cotton wool to cleansed ... I have been using TCP for years and years. For some reason though I had almost forgotten about TCP for a time...perhaps its because I use Sudocrem a lot (for which I have already done a review). TCP is great though....of course it really does pong but its worth putting up with that as in my view TCP is a great antiseptic liquid. It may also be preferable to some rather than using an antiseptic cream/ointment. The four main things I have usually used TCP for are firstly for ears...that is to say...if ever my ears have become a little infected due to earrings I have always put TCP on them. Of course, you will need to take your earrings out for a bit if this ... Read the complete review
