Advantages: Cheap, reliable
Disadvantages: Limited purchase because some people abuse it
In general I'm a fan of own-brand painkillers - the difference between the cost of production and the retail price is normally ridiculous, and anything that cuts down this enormous divide is just fine with me.
Tesco's own brand Ibuprofen costs just 32p for 16 easy to swallow tablets (Nurofen's equivalent is £1.89, and as I write this there's an advert on the page for 500 tablets for £11.95). They're coated in some shiny substance that means that with a glass of water they go down really easily, and there's no horrible chalky aftertaste. They're aimed at relatively low-level pain - you'd need something more substantial if you'd had a tooth out or had a migraine, but for a regular headache, a hangover or period cramps they'd be ideal.
They contain 200mg of ibuprofen each, which makes them a fairly standard-sized painkiller. Normal dose is 1 or 2 every 4-6 hours as needed, and it is definitely not advised to go overboard. If you have something wrong with you that 400mg of ibuprofen won't fix you should be seeing a doctor for something stronger.
How well it works depends on what's wrong with you, but if you have a regular headache it should start working in 10-20 minutes and the headache will gradually decrease and be gone in perhaps an hour.
This is a great reliable painkiller and should be a medicine-cabinet staple. Always read the label.
Summary: Simple reliable painkiller
