Advantages: So Cheap

Disadvantages: A little rough perhaps?

Before last week, I don't think I had ever purchased a box of tissues in my entire life - i've always seen them as a particularly 'girlie' thing to buy. Besides, i've been quite happy in the past to take a tissue straight off a toilet roll - or better yet, i'll use a handkerchief. However, seeing a Tesco employee filling up the shelves with boxes and boxes of the incredibly popular 'Value Tissues' made me wonder if there was something i've been missing out on all these years, and for only 25p, I thought it was worth the risk.

At the time of my extravagant purchase, I had an incredibly runny nose, so the tissues went straight into action. Each box contains 150 sheets - which is a good thing, as I used about 100 of them in the first evening. The tissues are '2 Ply' - meaning they consist of two thin separate layers, each one measuring 19 x 20 centimetres.

Most importantly, these tissues are environmentally friendly (I wouldn't buy them if they weren't - even for 25p), as they have the Forest Stewardship Council seal of approval on the red and white cardboard box.

Tesco Value Tissues are quite soft, yet I did find that they can irritate the nose fairly quickly. By the second day of some light-to-moderate blowing (yes, I do have my own blowing hardness scale...), my nose was red and rather sore (I feel bad complaining for the price!). I'm not saying that other tissue brands wouldn't have caused this irritation - as, like I said, i'm a tissue-box virgin - yet, i've noticed that some of the more expensive makes (like 'Kleenex') have protective balms applied to them to prevent soreness.

Tesco Value Tissues ARE extremely economical, and I would certainly recommend them for the light sniffle / snuffle - but if you've got a heavy cold, then perhaps you should look elsewhere. Perhaps they would be well suited for make-up removal - yet of course, I wouldn't know that!

Summary: OK Tissues

My hubby uses a handkerchief but I hate them. They are so unhygienic. I got him out of that habit and now he just leaves piles of snotty tissues everywhere when he has a cold. When I say everywhere I mean 'EVERYWHERE'!
