Tesco Value Facial Tissues
Advantages: Cheaply priced, box should last a long time, environmentally friendly packaging, simply does the job
Disadvantages: Tissues are slightly rough, not thick enough.
I always have to have a box of tissues in the house for me and my fiancÚ. With both of us working in schools, you can guarantee that one of us would come down with a cold every so often from the sniffling children, and so having a box of tissues at hand is a must!
We regularly get our shopping via Tesco, and have found that boxes of tissues can be quite expensive at times. Living on a budget means that sometimes we have to find cheaper options that do the job just as well as a more expensive brand would. Therefore, we decided to go for Tesco Value's tissue box. Priced at a mere 39p per box containing 150 2 ply tissues, this seemed very cheap for a box of tissues, especially considering that it contained more tissues in it than other more expensive brands have.
As with all Tesco Value products, the packaging is a stark white, with the identifiable red stripe through the box. The Tesco Value logo adorns the top, with a large red font underneath letting you know that this is indeed a box of tissues. I know a lot of people choose colourful patterned tissue boxes for their house, so they fit in with decor, add a bit of colour to the room or maybe just to make the area where the tissues are more interesting. However, this did not seem an issue for me, because I had bought these tissues to be used, not as a fashion item.
The tissues are plain white, and are the standard size of tissues that you can find in tissue boxes. The tissues have a slight rough texture to them, which is probably due to using cheaper materials to create them, and the fact that these tissues do not include balm or other smoothing agents in them, like Kleenex do for example. I also noticed that these tissues are unfortunately not very thick. This means that you will need to use a few if you have a heavy cold. Due to the thinness, they are also easily tear-able, so if you normally use tissues for other household means, such as rubbing at stains or cleaning off greasy fingers, then I would suggest trying a thicker tissue or kitchen roll to do this. To those of you who are concious about doing your bit for the environment, the tissue box is recyclable cardboard, and this product claims to be helping the worlds forests, which I assume means that the tissues have been made from recyclable resources.
So in summary, Tesco Value Facial Tissues are extremely cheap, and do hold a considerable amount of tissues, but sadly they are not the best quality tissues. The tissues themselves are slightly rough and are also rather thin, so you may find yourself using more than one in one session, especially if you have an extremely runny nose! These tissues also do not contain any balm, Aloe-Vera or other smoothing agents like more expensive brands such as Kleenex do, so if you are hoping to give your nose a bit of a break during a rough cold, then sadly you will not find it here. As I tend to suffer from colds on a regular basis, I think I would rather spend the little extra and get tissues that are of a softer texture, so my nose does not end up getting red and sore from over-blowing on rougher tissues. Although there are some drawbacks, these tissues do the job in simple terms, and due to the cheap price, you cannot complain too much about the quality.
Summary: A cheap tissue box that does the job, but they could do with being softer, and thicker!
