Advantages: Versatile, effective relief of pain and irriation in many forms

Disadvantages: It must be kept away from your eye area. Its difficult to buy in shops.

Tiger Balm is available in red extra strength, or white/original: For this review, I am going to talk about the white/original version, mainly because, having tried them both, I don't find the red one any stronger but I DO find that it stains everything it comes into contact with!

However, the white/original Tiger Balm is fantastic. It doesn't stain, as it rubs in to become invisible, yet the relief it offers for a variety of ailments is just great. I have only seen the red Tiger Balm in shops , so I buy the white version in bulk on Ebay, personally.

I first discovered Tiger Balm in my childhood, when I lived in South-East Asia and no-one was ever without a jar of this miracle balm.

Now as an adult living in England, I use it for the relief of headache/migraine, hay fever and animal allergies , and arthritic/muscular pains.

The blurb on the jar also mentions itching, insect bites, sprains and lumbago. I have been known to apply a thin coating to a facial spot, with no ill effects.

Simply massage it into the affected area as you wish, obviously it's very important that you avoid your eye area (ouch!).

For the hay fever/allergy treatment, apply to the inside of the nose with a cotton bud or tissue: It seems to form some sort of barrier and works really well.

It clears the passages in the head when you have a cold, and I have even rubbed it into the abdomen to ease period pain. Really, whatever your ailment, just try it: Maybe in conjunction with other remedies such as painkiller tablets, maybe not, it's your choice. This is perfectly safe and effective.

The smell could be an issue for some: You will either love or loathe this pungent menthol vapour. Ingredients include menthol, camphor, cajuput oil, clove oil, so it's a strong mix. My personal experience is that I love it, and find it strangely comforting: I know it's about to make me feel better :)

Summary: Just try it and see for yourself. I wouldn't be without it.
