Advantages: Fast acting relief from heartburn and indigestion

Disadvantages: Not as cheap as other antacids

These are antacids that are used for bloatedness, indigestion and heartburn. These are calcium carbonate tablets with added flavouring to make them taste nice. They are manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (Beecham's, Ribena, Lucozade, Sensodyne, Aquafresh, to name but a few ). Their revenue for 2008 was a whopping £24.3 million - giving you an idea of what kind of company is behind these little gems.

When the acid and alkaline ph is disturbed in the body, these tablets help you to get back to a state of normality (those of you who paid attention in science class should remember this ;-)

The taste is really nice, with different fruit flavours such as cherry, lemon which simply melt in the mouth. The sweet taste and effectiveness have been the reasons I have stuck to this solution as opposed to other antacids.

They come very well packaged, in a neat little tub. These do vary, but the one I have at my side, for those moments, contains 75 individual tablets for around £3.19. You can also get them in a convenient roll, handy when you're on the go. They are ideal for those regrettable feelings after a Friday night out of indulgence with beers and curry. They can pretty much be bought in most chemists and supermarkets - Asda to definitely state one.
The most you are advised to take in a day are 16 tablets, and they should not be used as a long term solution. They are not to be used by kids under the age of 6, people with kidney problems or people with high levels of calcium or phosphate in their blood.

Be careful not to overindulge with these, as they can have serious side effects such as constipation, hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood, which can result in kidney stones).

I would certainly recommend ensuring you have these in stock, as you never know when you might need them.

Summary: Fruity flavoured sweets with a purpose
