"A second-class return to Nottingham, please." Even all these years on, the words of the 1980s TV advert for Tunes remain with me. In those days, they came in conventional tubes and were available in cherry, blackcurrant and honey flavours. The honey variety has long since been consigned to the great medicine cabinet in the sky, being replaced by strawberry, but the cherry version is still around, which is all to the good as otherwise this would not be a very long or informative review! These days, Tunes come in little cardboard packets in a sort of shrunken cigarette-packet shape. I doubt that that's the image the makers (Mars, no less) really want ... Read the complete review

Due to my recent cold I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to sample all the ranges of cough, throat and cold-related sweets on the market. Tunes is probably one of the first names that you think of when someone says 'throat sweets'. They have been around for a long time but I have only recently seen this new version. This new style of Tunes is packaged in a small, dark red, cardboard box with a flip up lid. The box is quite cute and compact but I think it is probably less convenient for carrying around than a tube of sweets, as it takes up more room and is more likely to come open inside your bag or pocket and spew out its contents. Overview Tunes is probably one of the first brands that I think about when I think of cold and cough sweets (along with Halls). Traditionally tunes were square shaped and came packaged in a row. The new lozenges are oval shaped and come in a box I suspect that they are Tunes attempt at competing with Hall's Soothers. What does a Cherry Tune look like? The Tune lozenges are a bevelled oval shape a bit like a pebble they have a dip in the middle and are a bright red colour. I would say they are a similar size to a 1p but oblong instead and they have a glossy see through look, with a slightly sticky texture. What is a Cherry Tune ... Read the complete review

My cold has nearly come to an end but just to finish it off I decided to purchase some throat sweets to get rid of the final bit of my sore throat and clear up my nose. I decided upon a packet of Tunes which, and I always remember this from an advert, help you breathe more easily. This apparently is still the case as on my packet of tunes there is a little symbol saying BREATHE with some arrows to indicate that it gets your breathing mechanism working again. The Tunes I purchased were the cherry menthol flavour. They are described as cherry menthol sweets with real fruit juice and sweeteners. They are just like hard boiled sweets and are in a round ... Tunes Cherry Sugar Free Throat Lozenges I decided to try and be fit and healthy at the start of the week and went for a swim. For about the first twenty minutes it was fine there was only four people in the pool and then we were joined by a loud group of school kids. I don't mind kids but over the last few weeks the airwaves have been full with news about how many kids are coming down with swine flu and other colds at the min especially in NI. Needless to say a day later and I was completely bunged up and have been feeling pretty lousy for the past few days. It may not have been the kids fault but if I was a detective looking for a cause they would ... Read the complete review
