Advantages: Nice cherry taste, menthol, handy packet
Disadvantages: None
My cold has nearly come to an end but just to finish it off I decided to purchase some throat sweets to get rid of the final bit of my sore throat and clear up my nose. I decided upon a packet of Tunes which, and I always remember this from an advert, help you breathe more easily.
This apparently is still the case as on my packet of tunes there is a little symbol saying BREATHE with some arrows to indicate that it gets your breathing mechanism working again.
The Tunes I purchased were the cherry menthol flavour. They are described as cherry menthol sweets with real fruit juice and sweeteners. They are just like hard boiled sweets and are in a round disc like shape. They have a little indentation in the middle of the sweet, not sure why but I guess it adds a bit of texture to the sweets. The sweets are probably about the size of a Werthers Original and in fact look just like them in my opinion except for the fact that they are a deep cherry red colour.
On the box it explains that menthol comes from the mint plant and is famous for its invigorating properties. Menthol is used quite a lot in cold products I believe as it is very good at sorting out a blocked nose as it is quite strong and does make your eyes water and tingle as it has a weird sensation about it. Tunes then say that they have combined menthol with the great tasting fruity flavour of cherries. I really like the taste of these throat sweets. They do have a lovely cherry taste and once you pop them in your mouth they become quite juicy. I can definitely taste the menthol aspect to them although it's not too overpowering. What's also nice about these sweets is that they do not taste like medicine and do not have that horrible aftertaste like some throat sweets do.
Tunes are also an excellent source of vitamin C and we all know that's it's good to get a lot of vitamin C when you are not feeling well as it works as a great defence for the body.
The Tunes come in a handy cardboard box instead of a tube which you can easily store in your bag. It almost looks like a little cigarette packet. The top has a flap which opens easily and then folds down again to secure the sweets inside. The sweets last for quite a while, the expiration on my packet says 04/09/2011.
All in all, a good throat sweet that has helped my cold and a product I recommend.
