Advantages: taste, packaging, temporary releif of symptoms
Disadvantages: none really
I've had a dry throat and tickly cough for coming up to a fortnight now and I'm starting to get a bit fed up with it to be honest. It isn't a full blown cold or even man-flu yet but it's annoying all the same, I've been taking regular slurps of cough medicine which dampen the cough down during the day but I am being disturbed by coughing on a nightime in bed or when I put my feet up watching the TV.
Thinking that I could probably do with something to help with my throat I have been buying a few boxes of Tunes in to try and help matters.
Packaged in the box as shown above they have a convenient flip top lid that opens to reveal the individual Tunes within, handily they have no other wrapping on them so you can simply pick one up and pop it into your mouth. I used to hate the packets of Tunes and Halls Mentholyptus that had individual fiddly wrappers on them that invariably got stuck and wouldn't unwrap easily, so these definitely get the thumbs up from me for ease of use.
Popping one into your mouth greets you with a sweet cherry flavour, not too sugary but nice and fruity, they once claimed to help you breath more easily and for a few seconds of sucking you do get a menthol taste that you can feel in your nose, so I would agree that for a mild dose of cold they do provide some relief. I can't say that they are a miracle cure for coughs and sneezes but the mixture of the menthol and cherry flavour do give some comfort, and being sugar free you don't have to worry too much about how many you have. The packaging does warn that eating too many can have a laxative effect, presumably this is due to the artificial sweeteners contained, but unless you ate box after box I wouldn't worry too much about that.
Ingredients are listed as containing: Sweeteners (Isomalt, Sucralose), Citric Acid, Cherry Juice, Flavouring, Menthol, Vitamin C, and Colour (E129) so people affected by sweeteners should bear this in mind.
All in all, for my cough at the moment they do provide a little relief and I normally just allow one to sit on my tongue and dissolve over time, they do taste pleasant and would certainly recommend to anyone having a dose of the sniffles. At around 50p for a 37g box they are cheap enough and can be found at your regular supermarkets, chemists and local shops.
A fair Dooyoo rating from me would be 4/5 stars for the reasons stated above.
Summary: see above, thanks for reading.
