Premium Review Vetiver: Up the Wooden Hill and Down Sheet Lane (507 words)
by - written on 14/11/01 (Very useful, 69 readings)
Rating:

Sleep for me has always been a problem. I will give anything a try, so when I took an aromatherapy course a few years ago and was told about Vetivert Essential Oil, I just had to give it a try. Its properties sounded ideal and just what I needed. No more sleeping pills! Vetivert Essential Oil or should I call it Vetiveria Zizanioides, (no, I think I?ll stick to Vetivert) comes from the roots of wild grasses in Asia. In India and Sri Lanka, where the grasses are cultivated this oil is known as ?The Oil of Tranquillity?. Vetivert is a thick brown sticky essential oil. It has an earthy, back to basic smell. It is not one that can be described as pleasant! It also ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Oil of Tranquillity  (257 words)

Rating:

Vetiver (Vetiveria Zizanioders) originates from India and Sri Lanka, where it is known as the “Oil of Tranquillity”. Vetiver is a tall tufted, perennial, scented grass with straight stems and long narrow leaves. Vetiver essential oil is distilled from its dried roots and has a deep smoky, earthy aroma which is wonderfully grounding and relaxing. Vetiver is valued mostly for its sedative properties, and is used in massage and also in the bath as it is known to relieve stress anxiety, nervous tension and insomnia. It also helps to ground people who suffer from depression or who need to feel stable after shock or a period of insecurity. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Wonderful warming Vetiver (444 words)
by - written on 07/10/00 (Very useful, 100 readings)
Rating:

Vetiver is one of my top two or three favourite essential oils and, being quite cheap, lonmg lasting and non-irritating is another one that's great for beginners to aromatherapy to experiment with. It's not mentioned in all the books on aromatherapy, which I think is a shame because it really is so useful. Vetiver is extracted from the roots of a tall grass which grows in parts of Asia and has a very deep, earthy, slightly sweet, warm smell which is quite strong, but not as distinctive or pungent as, say patchoulli. One of its most important uses in aromatherapy is in helping arthritis and rheumatism. If you suffer from either of these, ...  Read the complete review
