Vicks vapour rub is an absolute must have in my medicine cabinet through the winter months as it is fantastic for when you have a cold.

The rub itself is very similar in concistency to vaseline, it is a greasy product that once wiped off or absorbed in leaves little residue behind and can be brought in two different scents, menthyl or lemon, i prefer the menthyl as this works the best.

There are a few ways you can use the vapour rub, my favorite is to apply directly to the skin on your chest and throat which helps to stop coughing especially at night and the smell of the menthyl helps to clear blocked noses at the same time.

For a severely bunged up head you can add a little of this to a bowl of hot water then sit with it for a while inhaling the vapour, this works to unblock all of your sinuses but it does sting your eyes a little.

Now that my children are getting older i no longer by the menthyl drops to put on there pilows when they have a cold but use this instead, i put a bit on a tissue and put it inside there pillow case to help keep there noses unblocked all night.

You cant use this on children under 2 years of age according to my tub but you can get a childrens version of this that is suitable from birth, it doesnt need any specific storage just keep it at room temperature and a 50g tub cost me £1.99.

I prefer to use this rather than other cough mixtures as this is non drousey.
