Zovirax
by Missfisher92
If you have ever had a cold sore you will know how nasty they can be as well as painful and ugly. I suffer from them a lot in the winter and when I am upset.
Why you get cold sores....
You get cold sores from having a cold, flu, being stressed. Basically when your body is really run down
Why I wanted this ... product....
I wanted this as I do suffer from cold sores and I find it hard to buy products that work. So I thought I would buy some Zovirax to see if it worked as I have heard great reviews about it.
Packaging...
You can buy Zovirax in two forms, a tube or a pump. They both weigh the same 2g, Personally I opted for the pump. Both types come in a box with information on and in the box you get the product and a information leaflet. When you pull the product out it is a little white tube, like a lip balm. It has a a little cap that you take off and you press the pump down and it dispenses the product.
The product itself......
The tube has a label on it With the product name, how to use and expiry date. The cream itself comes out in small amounts, it is white, has no smell. But when you do apply the product it does have a sweet taste to it.
The senses....
It does have a sweet taste to it, it's not pleasant and not unpleasant.
It feels very very greasy on the skin.
No smell at all.
It is a white lotion.
When to use...
Use at the first signs of feeling a cold sore, or even when it has come up, apply 5 times a day. The 2g is more than enough to treat 1 cold sore.
How to use...
Apply with clean hands and rub onto the cold sore, use liberally.
My experience...
I know when I am just about to get a cold sore, so I did apply this, I followed the instructions and within a week it had gone. I find it much more easier than some other products to use. However I was less than impressed wight he price tag.
Availability...
You can buy this online and in store, such as Boots or pharmacies.
Price....
You can buy it for anything up to £7 however I have seen it in Asda for £2.76.
Advantages.....
Works okay, I'm not shouting from the rooftops though.
The pump dispenser does give the right amount.
Disadvantages...
Far too expensive,
I have found cheaper products to work just the same.
Would I recommend.....
No not really. Read the complete review |

Daktarin Activ Dual Action Spray Powder

Athletes Foot
= = = = = =
A lot of people suffer from Athlete's foot which is a common condition caused by a fungal infection. Just because you have athlete's foot doesn't mean you have poor hygiene or dirty feet. Athlete's foot can be cause by sweating in tight shoes or trainers which can cause a build-up of bacteria which is ... how the fungal infection starts. The dark, warm conditions in shoes are the perfect place for this bacteria. Athlete foot normally appears in between the toes and can be itchy, red and sore. Some of the skin may be broken or flaking off as well. There are lots of antifungal sprays, creams and other treatments that can treat athlete's foot to make it go away and to prevent it from re-occurring. Athlete's foot can be spread easily so it's important that you treat the problem as soon as you get it to prevent it from spreading any further. If left untreated athletes foot can also cause fungal nail infections too. I have had athletes foot before and I am unsure whether I have got it again or not. Although I haven't got dry, itchy skin in between my toes, I have got dry skin on my big toe and also on the ball of my foot and the area around it. I have tried treating this with special foot treatment as I thought it was dry skin, how-ever it hasn't cleared up at all so I decided to treat it as athlete's foot.
The Product
= = = = = =
The product I am reviewing is the Daktarin Spray Powder which is an antifungal treatment for relief and protection against athlete's foot. Although the dry skin I had wasn't itchy it was quite flakey so I was hoping that this would help to treat it if I did have a fungal infection. The spray powder is easy to use leaving no mess when spraying the product to the affected area. The product contains Miconazole Nitrate , which works by destroying both the fungus that causes the infection and some of the associated bacteria which may also be present. The Aktiv formula has an anti-fungal treatment to kill the Athlete's Foot fungus, relieving the associated itching and soreness. It also has Anti-bacterial action to help prevent secondary infection. As the powder comes in a spray it's convenient to use and targets like a cream, but dries like a powder, which means it can be used inside shoes & socks as well as on the feet. The spray powder can be used for treating the whole foot as well as in between the toes. The powder comes in a round spray can which is short and chunky. It clearly states on the front what the product is for and how it works. On the back of the can it tells you what the product contains and how to use it. It also gives you warning information about the product too. The can has a white lid which covers the nozzle in which the powder comes out of.
Price/Availability
= = = = = = = =
This product is available to buy from a range of different stores such as Boots, Superdrug and Pharmacies. I paid £4.84 for the can which holds 100g of product.
Using the Product
= = = = = = = =
I started using this product after getting out of the shower. It's important to apply the product on clean, dry feet. I only have one infected foot so I was going to spray it only on this foot. I shock the can well and put my foot up behind me so I could spray the area of the foot. The spray comes out easily releasing the white powder and it makes the bottom of my foot a little white from using it. The spray is cold when it first goes on which would provide some relief from the itching if you have any. I also sprayed some inside my socks and then put them on as normal. The spray is easy and convenient to use and it doesn't really have a scent to it. It does suggest using the product in a ventilated area and not to breathe in the powder as this may cause irritation. After 3 days the dry, flakey skin had started to decrease which tells me that this was definitely a fungal infection or a case of Athlete's foot. I continued using the spray and within 1 week the dry skin had cleared up and was no longer visible. I was really impressed by how quickly the product worked.
Overall Opinion
= = = = = = =
I was really impressed with how quickly this product works to clear up athlete's foot. Due to the spray can the product is really easy to use and also makes it convenient to use as well. As the product feels cool when first applied it's quite refreshing, especially if your feet are feeling hot after a shower/bath. Although this product is available in a cream I prefer the spray can as it means you don't need to touch the infected area which could potentially spread the infection. In terms of value I think the product is very good value as it works really well and it works quickly to relieve any symptoms and signs of Athlete's foot. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is suffering or thinks they are suffering from Athlete's foot. Although the Athlete's foot I had has cleared up I still spray the product in my shoes and socks to prevent it from re-occurring. I can't think of any downsides to this product so I am going to give it 5 stars.

Canestan Thrush Cream
by hopey123
Ok so I couldn't think of a better title then that, the bird meaning a thrush bird, get it?
Canestan cream is mainly known for it's treatment of thrush, it's the product that people seem to hide when they are buying it but honestly it is nothing to be ashamed of. Canestan is used for not just thrush but any fungal infections. ...
It costs £9.99 for 50ml in Boots. You do have to be aged 16 plus to purchase this cream but it can be used on adults and children. Some children can be prone to fungal nappy rashes and this will treat it.
My reason for getting this recently was a fungal infection (a type of thrush) but NOT down there where you may be thinking, honest. For several months I've been getting an infection in the worst place ever for me and that's my belly button, I'm very weird about belly buttons and hated the fact that it would get bright red and infected and basically quite yucky, when it kept coming and going for several months I went to the doctor who advised of the problem and recommenced this Canestan cream. It would seem the infection rotates with my monthly cycle and on mentioning this to the Doctor she said another patient had the same problem and had also suggested the monthly was the reason behind it. Just put that bit in so if others suffer from the same it may help them explain it.
The cream itself comes in a small tube. On first use the top needs piercing which you do by putting the lid upside down and pushing down on it. The cream comes out very easily and little pressure of squeezing is required. It is a white cream so you can easily see where you are rubbing it into using a clean finger.
When I first used this I saw the redness die down fairly quickly and within a couple days the problem was gone. I've only had to use this one other time since having it so hoping that this has knocked the problem on the head.
