Advantages: Soothes, relieves, does the job!

Disadvantages: None!

I have sensitive skin and suffer with skin irritation on a regular basis, sometimes because I've eaten something I shouldn't. There's one or two products that I swear by when it comes to soothing skin irritation (one being Sudocrem), but I find the skin can get used to them if used regularly and so I prefer to vary the product used every now and then.

When I spotted Witch Doctor Gel in my Nan's local pharmacy I thought I'd give it a go (despite finding that some witch hazel products have given me a burning feeling in the past). Witch Doctor Gel uses natural witch hazel extract (unsurprisingly) along with skin treating conditioners (with long names I can't say) to soothe and relieve skin irritation, including itching, swelling and redness. It is also antiseptic and so helps protect against infection.

The Witch Doctor Gel comes in a 35g tube (which comes in a box), which seems quite small compared to other products, but a little bit does seem to go a long way.

So, does it do the job it's supposed to? My answer is... Yes! My back was itching earlier and it was getting quite annoying, so I grabbed the Witch Doctor Gel and asked Mum to rub some on my back (as it's quite difficult to do my back myself!). To apply the gel, you gently smooth the gel onto the affected area and let it dry (which doesn't take long). I found it felt cool at first, but it quickly soothed the irritation and my back hasn't bothered me since.

As it's a clear gel (with the usual witch hazel greeny-blue hit to it), you can use it anywhere and not have to worry about it leaving a mark or white patches (like Sudocrem). It does smell of witch hazel, but this doesn't linger after use (so you don't have to worry about smelling of witch hazel while out and about).

While I use it to stop my skin itching, but packaging does state that it is also for the treatment of insect bites & stings, sunburn, minor burns, bruises, grazes, personal irritation, chafing, minor rashes and skin irritations.

Would I recommend it? Certainly! It was cool and soothed my skin, so it did it's job. It only cost me £2.85 from Rowlands Pharmacy, so not a bad price either.

Summary: Top stuff!

When I was a kid, my dad used Witch Hazel as an aftershave - I used to love the smell of it. Still do.
