Advantages: works very quickly
Disadvantages: expensive
Zirtek is the only thing that I have found to stop hayfever that really works. For a couple of years when my hayfever was fairly bad and starting in April and not ending in September I took Claritin, Piriton, various nasal sprays that the doctor prescribed me but nothing really worked brilliantly. Then I discovered Zirtek, I'm not even sure how I found it but the first one I took stopped my hayfever almost completely in the space of about 45 minutes!!! Sure I had the odd sneeze and bit of a runny nose but not the watering eyes and sore throat and everything else that had gone along with it for many mornings previously. You only have to take one Zirtek per 24 hour period, but by about 12 hours I can feel the affects wearing off, although luckily my hayfever is worse in the mornings anyway so it isn't that much of a problem. I did used to feel very tired when I first started taking it, to the point where my eyes just wouldn't stay open. The packet says it dosn't cause drowsiness if I remember correctly and I have taken it a few times over the past few weeks without feeling drowsy so maybe the tiredness before was actually nothing to do with the Zirtek. It comes in a packet of 7 and they are extremely small tablets. They work out to be very expensive, so if you are a hayfever suffer go and ask your doctor to prescribe them. I got three months worth which worked out at a tremendous saving. Zirtek is also good to take for a number of other allergic reactions. I always take one when I have mosquito bites because I'm allergic to them, I can't say they work brilliantly for that but perhaps they'd be lots worse if I didn't take it.

- 07/09/00 Zirtek is very effective, but it does make me drowsy, so anyone who gets effected by pills should be aware of this side-effect. I'm slightly confused about why it has been listed in the infections category! ;o) |
